AMIR SURAJ AJISEBUTU

Suraj Ajisebutu is the Olu-Omo Egbe Bobamayegun. He is also the Akeweje Okunrin, Egbe Bobagunwa Obinrin Asiwaju Akile Ijebu. He is a professional ex-banker, IT Audit, Governance, Compliance and Risk Management with specialization in Cybersecurity Strategy and Architecture. He is a teacher, career coach and great mentor to several successful IT/Cybersecurity professionals across the globe. Suraj has over 25 years experience spanning Banking, Oil & Gas, Medical, and Consulting World. An alumnus of great Ijebu-Ode Grammar School (JOGS), and a graduate of Computer Science from UNILORIN and has attended some professional/management courses at MIT (Cybersecurity for Managers 2021) and Harvard (Fintech 2022).

Amir Suraj Ajisebutu was born on Monday, June 30, 1975 in Ijebu-Ode. His late father Mr Adebisi Ajisebutu, a second republic politician of repute, hailed from the AJISEBUTU family of Ita Alapo and his late mother Alhaja Fatmat Adenike Adesoye is from Balogun Adesoye family of Ijebuland.

Suraj had his primary school education at St Saviours Anglican Primary which he completed with excellent Primary School Leaving Certificate result in 1986 and immediately proceeded to the most prestigious and best secondary school in Ijebuland – JOGS. At JOGS, he enjoyed the best of secondary school education and is part of the JOGS 86/92 set. He completed the Secondary School education in flying colour, specifically 6 distinctions in sciences. As expected, he got admission immediately to the University of Ilorin to study Computer Science. While in the University, to support his educational funding, he engaged in lots of extra-mural teachings in the campus and coming home periodically to lend his educational support for the younger ones in Ijebuland.

On graduation from the University of Ilorin in 1998, it coincided with the period in which Egbe Bobagunte (1959 – 1961) was formed and I remember vividly accompanying my uncle (Otunba Gboyega Adesoye) to YISADE hotel during the formation stage of the Egbe. That particular event had a renewed influence on my love for Regberegbe and I was determined as early as 1998 to make JOGS 86/92 a very strategic part of Regberegbe in Ijebuland because prior to this time I noticed, perhaps arguably, that Regberegbe was dominated by old students of other schools like MUSEDICO.

It is worthy to mention that Suraj is not just an academic professional but an Islamic youth leader and administrator, he became an Amir, NASFAT Ijebuland in 2001. This position exposed him, very early, to leadership role as he led and coordinated NASFAT youths in Ijebuland.

He surpassed the expectation of religious leaders as he led the group for over 4 years without any blemish or integrity issues. During this period, Suraj with support of his friends, was able to achieve these laudable goals for NASFAT and Ijebuland as listed below: pioneer Computer Education in NASFAT, Arabic classes, setting up of NASFAT Business Centers, Free holiday coaching classes, Education tuition support (most times through personal effort), Raised funds to buy NASFAT Youth Dawah Bus, Community Social

Responsibility (CSR) activities in NASFAT like visitation to Motherless Baby Home (Owu-Ikija), General Hospital and Ijebu Prison among others. At NASFAT Ijebuland, despite the demanding nature of my work and long distance travels every weekend, Suraj, in 2008, grew up to become the Branch Secretary of NASFAT Ijebu branch. This is a branch reputed for active membership participation of proud members like Professor Pekun Alausa, late Alhaji Olatunde Balogun, Oba Adenugba (Ebumawe), Giwa Odutayo, Engr Kay Shote, late Engr Oni, Alhaji Adesoye Olanlege (FCA), Alhaji Balogun Gbogbo-lgbe and several other elders of NASFAT Ijebuland. I was opportuned to have interacted and learnt from all these great Ijebu fathers on

administration, community development, philantropism and soon.

Despite relocation to the USA in 2015, my love for Ijebu culture and custom remain undiluted especially the sanctity of Regberegbe was very paramount to me and my group of friends. We discovered that our age grade (BobaMayegun Okunrin) and some senior age grades were populated by few age cheats and decided to collaborate with my friend (Otunba Asiwaju Ayo Osisanya) to strategically create a unique age group devoid of age cheats from USA, that game-changing effort led to set up of the pacesetter, community friendly, socially responsible Bobamayegun Okunrin Asiwaju, Ijebuland. As one of the pioneer members of the age grade, we are reputed for lots of community development, welfarism of members and we are poised to becoming pacesetter age group of Ijebu land.

Between 2001 to 2015, Suraj worked for several banks in Nigeria like OmegaBank, SpringBank, Sky Bank, Union Bank and others. After 15 years in Banking profession in Nigeria, I was head hunted by Mayo Clinic (The Best Clinic in USA) to work as an IT Auditor. While in USA, Suraj worked and consulted for AlphaGRC (Baker Hughes), Niche Consulting (PwC) before he decided to move into private practice of teaching IT Auditing and Cybersecurity to empower African community on IT Education, most especially with lots of “high paying” jobs in Cyber-World.

Suraj is considered a worthy asset to African community on IT Education and mentoring in USA. This accorded him STAR AHED Award (IT Audit/Compliance category) Houston Texas, USA in recognition of his contribution to African in Diaspora empowerment.

Amir Suraj Ajisebutu is happily married with children.

He is a very amiable personality, kind-hearted, and loving father. Charity, they say, begins at home, Suraj has sponsored several extended family members up to University education level 1.
