Akinwummi Ambode, incumbent Governor of Lagos State, has accepted defeat in his efforts to become the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Ambode made the announcement on Wednesday during a very brief media address broadcast by Lagos television.
“In the last few days, there has been palpable tension in Lagos state but I strongly believe that the time has come for the state to move forward so that our progress in the last three and the half years are not erased,” he said.
“Dear Lagosians, APC is a great party and the interest of our beloved state must clearly supersede that of any individuals. It is in this regard that I wholeheartedly congratulate the winner of Lagos state APC primary, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”
