The Progressives For Change Group has asked the APC to be careful of the influence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila on incoming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in interest that can affect the party.
Stating this in a release made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, 9th May, 2023, the group alleged that Gbajabiamila was behind the secret endorsement of Hon Tajudeen Abass as the Speaker of the House of Reps, a claim that was never confirmed nor validated by the President-elect.
The group claimed Gbajabiamila’s action was an affront to the independence sanctity of the national assembly and warns that the unlawful endorsement has the tendency to cause disaffection amongst the reps-eelect and also has the capacity to bring turbulence to the incoming administration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Some reports have concluded that Gbajabiamila has an ulterior motive for working hard to get the President -elect and party’s endorsement for Tajudeen Abass and another section feels that Asiwaju’s adversaries have found a loophole through which they can get to him and destabilize his government in the future with the reality that Governor Nasir El-Rufai is the mentor and leader of Tajudeen Abass.
The Progressive for Change Group claimed that the Kaduna Governor had publicly shown his disdain for the incoming-President and it is horrifying seeing Gbajabiamila aiding his protege to become the Speaker of the House of Reps, a position many believe should be given to a core loyalist of the incoming president to avoid future misfortunes.
It was widely reported that the erstwhile Secretary of the now dissolved Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Council, Hon. James Faleke challenged Gbajabiamila at the Lagos caucus meeting for being unnecessarily meddlesome and for falsely quoting the President-elect so as to gather support for Tajudeen Abass speakership ambition, this which Faleke claimed was outrightly contrary to the president-elect’s position on the set-up of the 10th Assembly leadership of the House of Representatives.
In the statement, the group said ‘as the presidential inauguration day inches closer, it is vital that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu critically examines all ideas and advices given by close allies to avoid making decisions that would be of great defect, mess and disadvantage to the smooth kick-off of his administration and could cause needless rancor in the 10th Assembly of the House of Representatives as he should timely caution Hon Femi Gbajabiamila’.
