Ahead of the 2023 General Elections, permutations and consultations have begun in every state, and Oyo Central Senatorial District is not an exception.
There are political stalwarts, who are already strategizing ahead of the next general elections which statutorily billed to hold in 2023.
Below are the top 5 politicians that may replace the incumbent Senator Teslim Folarin who is believed to be nursing a governorship ambition come 2023
1. Senator Monsurat Sunmonu
Sunmonu, 61 represented Oyo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2015 to 2019. However, the Oyo-born Politician lost her bid to return to the Senate in 2019. The UK-trained Accountant had previously served as Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly from June 2011 to May 2015. She holds the record as the First Female Speaker in the History of Oyo State. Sunmonu belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
2. Chief Lukman Oyebisi Ilaka
Ilaka, 59 is a London-trained Lawyer, Businessman, and Politician. He currently serves as Chief of Staff to the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde. Ilaka, who is the Ladilu of Oyo Kingdom was the 2019 Senatorial Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
3. Dr. Yunus Abiodun Akintunde
Akintunde, 58 was a 2019 Governorship Aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Businessman turned Politician began his political career in 1999 as a Commissioner in the Oyo State Civil Service, a position he occupied until 2003. He was the Oyo State Commissioner for Works and Transport from August 2011 to November 2012, Akintunde also served as an Executive Assistant to the late ex-governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi between April 2014 and May 2015.
4. Barr. Wakil Oyeleru Oyedemi
Fondly called “Oye” by his admirers, The 51years-old Oyedemi was a 2019 APC Aspirant for the Oyo Central Senatorial Seat. He is a US-based Solicitor and a One-time National President of the National Association of Oyo Students (NAOS).
5. Engr. Raji Kazeem Kolawole
Kolawole, 52 is the immediate past Executive Director (Engineering Services) of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, a position he held from September 2017 to January 2020. Engineer Kolawole hails from Oyo town.
Having served meritoriously in the telecommunication sector for over 20 years, before returning to serve his native state, he is held in esteem as a key player in the economy of the state and a major technical adviser to the government. He once attempted to contest at the core beginning of the 4th republic for House of Reps, but eventually gave in to team resolution and supported the party candidate, giving him the necessary support required
Long before Kolawole began to nurse his ambition to run for a political office in Oyo, he had been investing in the lives of people within his Constituency and was actively involved in social activities in the state.
