City People Music Awards is here again. In the next few weeks, City People will be hosting New & Young Music Acts who dominated this outgoing year. Lets tell you about these young music acts who are doing well. Over the years, the Music industry has grown and experienced the emergence of many bright stars.
There are young, talented and popular artistes who are dominating the Nigerian music scene. Aside from Wizkid, Burna Boy, Teni and Davido, this new crop of singers have a string of hits that have earned them a huge fanbase due to social media and their online presence. Despite that the year 2020, owing to the global pandemic, (Covid-19) has recorded poor outing for the entertainment industry, some rising acts have displayed immense talent in the music space. The OGs (the Big Boys) have made their mark and are still thriving, but our focus right now is on the new voices that attracted our attention and have shown no sign of slowing down. These artists have unique sounds and special methods of delivery during performances.
City People Entertainment Reporter, PRECIOUS POMAA brings you a list of 30 new artiste who have made the music industry amazing in 2020.
OMAH LAY
Fast-rising act from Rivers State, Stanley Omah Didia, well-known by the stage name, Omah Lay, was just a Port Harcourt boy, with nothing but his Talent and Passion for music. He announced his emergence on the music scene with singles such as Hello Brother and Do Not Disturb, which he released in 2019. He then followed it up with Alternate Cuts and Tonight, this year. He held everybody’s attention with his you and Bad Influence. Both tracks are off his debut Extended Play with the title Get Layd. Omlay happens to be the hottest in town topping all charts all over the world.
REMA
Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has not slowed down since he hit the industry with the bang, ‘Dumebi’. The popular song went all the way to top several music charts in Africa. Rema, who is signed on Don Jazz’s Mavin record label became more popular when his song, ‘Iron Man’ appeared on Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist. The youngster was crowned as the Next-Rated Act at the last Headies Award. After releasing two EPs, titled Freestyle EP and Bad Commando, and appearing on the cover pages of international tabloids, one could say that Rema is a force to reckon with in the Nigerian music industry and already a superstar. He recently dropped two songs which have taken over the whole industry, tagged: Woman and Ginger me.
FIREBOY
YBNL singer, Adedamola Adefolahan, professionally known as Fireboy DML, took the industry by storm in 2019 after he had a breakthrough with his popular track, ‘Jealous’, a song about love and its attendant complication. The talented vocalist and composer who described his genre of music as Afro-Life is certainly here to stay after he literally penetrated hearts of fans with his debut album, ‘Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps. On the album, the Obafemi Awolowo University graduate proved his distinctiveness as he displays a diverse approach to the Afrobeat sound, with a perfect lyric blended with his sharp voice. Fireboy DML is on a mission to become the next superstar! His recently dropped song New York City has enthralled many girls raring to go for him.
JOEBOY
Joseph Akinfenwa Donus better known as Joeboy has proved to music lovers that he is a bag of talent with a lovely voice that is easy to listen to. Banku Music under exclusive licence of emPawa Africa Limited, Joeboy grabbed fans’ attention after emPawa filmed his music video for ‘Baby’, which got 16 million Youtube plays and stayed at the top 10 of Apple Music’s charts in Nigeria, Uganda, and Kenya for weeks. He went on to drop another hit single, ‘Beginning’, which is one of the best songs of 2019 with massive airplay. With the aforementioned singles and his latest EP entitled ‘Love & Light’, and his latest drop “Call” the newcomer artiste has become one of the most talked-about in the Nigerian music industry.
BELLA SHURMDA
Bella Shurmda is a singer and songwriter who rose to fame after YBNL’s, boss, Olamide, featured him on his hit single ‘Vision 2020’. Having made an impression with his viral “Vision 2020”, he went on to release collaborations with Zlatan and Mohbad. He is a graduate of Lagos State University, he dropped an Ep, which gained massive airplay. He recently dropped a hit a song tagged: Dangbana Orisha, a song that attracted the attention of many celebrities.
BARRY JHAY
Barry Jhay is a fast-rising afro-beat music singer. His real name is Oluwakayode Junior Balogun, son of late Fuji music king, Ayinde Barrister, became a sleeper sensation after he released his single, ‘Aiye’ in 2018. The Cash Nation Entertainment recording artiste once said ‘music-making was never his plan’ but based on his father’s dying wish, he had no choice but to embrace the craft. Barry Jhay has perfected the music craft with songs like ‘Aiye,’ ‘Tomorrow,’ ‘Normal Level,’ ‘Don Pablo,’ ‘D.I.A,’ among others. He also won City People Music Award for Best New Act of the Year in 2018. He gave his fans a very amazing album early this year. His brand new hit single was dropped in November 6th called “Muje”
CANABIA
Kennedy Idiake who is popularly known as Canabia, started music at a tender age of 7 but started officially January 2020. Music has been has been a part of him since he was a child his love for melodies ,sounds and singing inspires his lyrics. Cana has released over 4 songs. The song Shaka which ft Teni Makanaki is shoot him to limelight. This song has been gaining massive air play in an outside the country.
TCLASSIC
Tolulope Ajayi better known by his stage name T-Classic, is a singer, songwriter and recording artiste. In 2017, T-Classic, signed on Mixnaija Entertainment released his lead single “I want you” produced by Killertunes. He has released 3 other hot songs tagged Nobody fine pass you, Hold On and an amazing EP that took the industry to another level.
BADBOYTIMZ
Bad Boy Timz, born Olorunyomi Oloruntimilehin is a student of Bells University, where he’s currently studying Computer Engineering. His skits and freestyles for which he received nods from industry giants (including J Hus ) caught the eyes of the record label and early in 2019, he signed a deal with Anonymous Music. His recently released song tagged: MJ has taken over every playlist.
TEMS
Temilade Openiyi popularly known as Tems is a Music Artist, Singer-Song Writer, and music producer. In 2019 Tems dropped singles “Looku Looku,” “Mr. Rebel,” and the viral hit “Try Me which earned her a Headies nomination, and a growing fanbase eager for more music. In February shortly after Star Boi tweeted he ‘made magic’ with the singer which set the app on fire as fans anticipated for the yet to be unreleased jam. Weeks after, American singer-songwriter Khalid in April dropped the remix to his latest release titled “Know Your Worth” where he featured Davido and Tems to deliver a textured production which retains the laid-back feel of the original while fusing elements of Afrobeats and dancehall. She dropped Her new single “These Days” which was produced by Rvdical The Kid last month. Wizkid also featured her on his latest album.
MS BANKS
Thyra Oji, better known by her stage name Ms Banks, is a British rapper and songwriter from Southeast London. The 24 year old was born to a Nigerian father and a Ugandan mother.Oji began writing music at age 11. Ms Banks was featured on Falz single -Bop Daddy which followed with a Challenge that broke the internet. In February Naira Marley also released visuals for a feature with the rapper entitled ‘Anywhere’, Oji has released three mixtapes as Ms Banks. In 2014, she released her first mixtape titled Once Upon a Grind. She then released her first EP titled New Chapter EP in 2016.The Coldest Winter Ever was released in 2018, followed by The Coldest Winter Ever Part II in 2019. Already approved by Nicki Minaj, Ms Banks has an arsenal of bangers to prove she’s a force to be reckoned with, like the club-ready Hood Bitch and Afrobeat-fused Snack. Ms Banks also has Cardi B in her corner after she supported her on her UK tour. Ms Banks also has a friend in Anthony Joshua and French Montana and has collaborated with artist such as Stormzy, Tinie Tempah, and many more UK artists.
BUJU
Buju is signee on Burna Boy’s record label Spaceship record label. 2020 came and his dreams came through when his Idol African Giant, Burna jumped on his last song ‘Lenu’ produced by music producer, Steph and video directed by TG Omori aka Boy Director which is smash hit. The song is ‘Spiritual’ which featured Zlatan. Born Daniel Benson, the native of Akwa Ibom describes Buju as an acronym for “Beauty Underneath Just Understood” is very deliberate about his style of music and his sound. His sound Afro-Fusion is inspired by his experiences, and what he hears and feels.
WURLD
Nigerian-American based artiste, Sadiq Onifade, widely known as WurlD, literally stole the airwaves in 2019 after teaming up with award-winning producer, Sarz On The Beats, for an enticing new 8-song EP, I Love Girls With Trobul. The project was on the first spot of Nigeria’s iTunes charts and with highly-addictive jams like “Trobul” and “Ego” WurlD has been in the industry for a while but his efforts in 2019 have had massive impacts on his career after he dropped his first EP, Love Is Contagious in March 2019. A popular track in the 9-song EPEP, “Contagious,” sees the blue-haired WurlD blending elements of Nigerian juju music with pop and R&B, making for a captivating and energetic fusion. He bagged the Headies’ Male Vocalist of 2019 award and that took him on a huge leap as it exposed him the more to the global industry. After the award, the artiste, who is signed on Universal Music Nigeria has been featured by several top artistes, the latest being Davido in ‘Sweet In The Middle’, a song of Davido’s ‘A Good Time’ album.
OXLADE
Oxlade is a young singer, who found his path to become a ‘star’ at Surulere – a Lagos suburb – by performing at Wizkid’s Starboy Fest, a sold-out show at the O2 Arena in London. Oxlade turned out to be well accepted by fans after several songs. Some of which include ‘Mamiwota’ by Blaqbonez, ‘Causing Trouble’ by DJ Tunez, his biggest hit so far entitled: ‘Wait among others. He is a promising independent artiste.
KING BERNARD
Fast-rising singer, Eze Bernard, popularly known as King Bernard who wears a crown in Lagos as a symbol of royalty recently, released a new song tagged DOH a song which has taken over the music industry, making every young lady vibe with joy. The song has been on *@triller* Top Trending Banner since the release of The Challenge. Afropop singer and songwriter, Lawal Raheem, also known as Lyta, has had his low and high times after he quit his record label, YBNL, owned by the famous indigenous rapper, Olamide. The 20-year-old Kwara State indigene was well received by music lovers after he featured former boss, Olamide, in a song, ‘Time’. He is currently in Doro music, he recently dropped a song tagged “Worry” a song that talks about his love life.
ZINOLEESKY
Fast-rising talented Nigerian vocalist and songwriter, Oniyide Azeez, is another newcomer with impressive vibes. He has a unique power of making listeners fall for his records and him particularly in a few seconds. Zinoleesky became a social media sensation with his unique voice and freestyles on Instagram with his partner Lil Frosh, that hauled them an organic growth. His fame rose after getting an Instagram repost of his cover to Fvck You by Kizz Daniel. Zinoleesky relentlessly and successfully convinced countless listeners to become his fans in 2019 with impressive tracks and collaborations. The “Who Knows” crooner, turned down AMW/DMW offering before he was signed on Marlian Records of controversial singer, Naira Marley, in December 2019. Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba popularly known as Mohbad is a sensational artiste who came into limelight after winning the BaddyOsha Who Dey Challenge last year. After getting his fans, he’s been utilizing the buzz around him by bringing what’s trending into music, he has done that with songs like “Neon”, “See My Bouncer”, “Balan Ziaga” and Je Seun which happens to be recently released. He recently dropped another banger a song that has Naira Maley and Lil Kesh on it. This song is gaining massive air play in an outside Nigeria.
JAIDO P
Taiwo Olajide Daniel popularly known as Jaido P, is a rapper and songwriter who rose to fame with a hit single, Tesinapot, in which he featured the YBNL’s boss Olamide, he is a student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife just as talented rapper. Jaido P, has released a debut EP “Stubborn Energetic Hard (SEH) in December, 2019. The extended play comprises 7 tracks with features from Zlatan, Chinko Ekun and Davolee.
SMALL BADDO
Olamilekan Babatunde is a street ace who has managed to create an inch for himself in the industry, Small started his music career at a very early stage. His song for my Arena has gained massive air play and even found him love in the eyes of the international promoter Billque. Small is currently trending due his recently dropped video a video that got the attention of many.
CRAYON
Crayon is a songwriter and a recording artiste, Charles Chibueze Chukwu also known as Crayon is the new face of Afrobeats that brings street experiences with a blend of pop, Latin and Caribbean rhythms. Crayon is signed to Mavin Records; Blowtime Entertainment, owned by producer, Baby Fresh. He released his 6 tracks EP “Cray Cray” in the middle of the year and his hit track “So Fine” made massive waves across the country. Crayon may not have been given the chances and attention given to Rema, his fellow label mate but he has proven to have a unique melody in his music even better than that of Rema.
JAAYSOUNDS
Avoseh Olatunbosun Peter popularly known as JAAYSOUNDS is an afrobeat artist and a producer originally from lagos. He was born on January 2/1998. He began his career professionally 2013 and has dropped couple of great sounds including a visual Titled FLAVOR which showcased on several digital platforms and popular tv stations. JAAYSOUNDS plans to take AFROBEATS to another level with his Enormous sounds!
OTEGA BILLZ
Stephen Ifedayo Oghenetega famously known as Otega Billz, once a blogger is a 25 year old rapper, singer and songwriter who gained a massive breakthrough his single “Stay Woke” which featured CDQ. Another song that confirmed the street rapper is a great singer and not in the industry for a joke was “Aje” which he got featured on; the song originally owned by Diamond Jimma which highlighted Otega Billz saw the talented artist showcasing his impeccable lyrics. SEYI VIBEZ
Balogun Afolabi Oluwaloseyi better known as Seyi Vibez is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He is a Nigerian fast-rising singer and songwriter and started his music career in Ikorodu, still in Lagos State. The young afro pop artiste makes his music in an indigenous style.

Moshood Adeola Adisa better known by his stage name, Hotkid is a fast-rising hip hop rapper, Afro beats singer, songwriter, stage performer and recording artiste currently signed to Dr Dolor Entertainment. Hotkid who was discovered by Dr Dolor, the DDE boss in a viral Instagram video, got thrilled by his rapping skills. No doubt, he has shown the industry the versatility of his talent with his debut single: “Ozana” and his “Honourable” EP, which made the world know he has a lot to show.
MARTINSFEELZ
Olawale Ayodeji Martins, popularly known as Martinsfeelz, a signee of Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz ‘s SOP Records, has been enjoying a smooth run in the limelight as his songs have always been met with praises from fans and critics alike. The Ilorin bred entertainer dishes out hit singles one after the other. His raving song titled “Show Me,” is arguably one of the best love songs you’ll ever come across. The single has enjoyed a successful rise across the world owing to the international appeal and new school vibe it carries. Martinsfeelz is definitely the real ‘No Bad Songs’ and you need to keep tabs on his songs.
DANNY BRACE
DANIEL AKEREJOLA aka Danny Brace is a 16 year old afrobeat sensation. Danny who just got discovered by AhLumi Entertainment, started his music Career singing in Church. He started developing interest in music in 2015 but had no access to a proper recording studio until August 2020. Danny dropped his first official single title Opor on the 22nd of October 2020. Danny has done covers of several hit songs and has gotten favourable reviews, but one which is attracting the attention of mainstream media is his cover of SuperBoyCheque’s Zoom. Okein Olumide (born Dec 28 Early 1995) , better known by his stage name Boymide (sometimes stylised as omo’ya debolu ), is a Nigerian recording artist, songwriter and performer. A University of Lagos graduate, who studied Philosophy. He started his musical career at his early age, he gained recognition with his hit single IT CANNOR HAPUN, in 2019 he became one of naija most popular instagram sensationa artist with the freestyle single ADAMU which caught the eye of the music industry. He is just signed into PROWESS ENTERTAINMENT, managed by Ray TMG management company SWERVE INNERCITY.

Onoja Timothy (born August 23, 1997), born to Nigerian parents Andrew and Grace Onoja. better known by his stage name Timikoda, is a fast rising Nigerian singer, songwriter, Stage Performer. He is an origin of Kogi State but was born and brought up in Bauchi state(Nigeria). Timikoda started his music career performing in gospel concerts at a very tender age, he delved into mainstream AfroPop music after he completed his degree in architecture from the prestigious Caritas Universityin 2018, released his first single ‘’Ego’’ in July, 2020. Timikoda is gradually becoming the next big thing in African Entertainment.
