On Saturday, April 17, 2021, Rivers State electorate fulfiled their civic responsibility of electing their representatives in the 23 Local Government Councils. They elected Chairmen and Ward Councilors. The Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, retired Justice Godwin Omereji, and the staff of the electoral body said anyone that all materials and manpower needed for the election had been mobilised as allowed by the Electoral Act establishing the Commission.
Speculation was high that All Progressives Congress might not field candidates as Wards, Local Government Areas and state congresses that could produce officials for the party and subsequently conduct Party Primaries is yet to be resolved by a Court of competent jurisdiction.
In 2019, APC didn’t participate in elections to Rivers State House of Assembly, Federal House of Representatives and Senate, which was a big political loss for Rivers State chapter of the party.
