What City People Found Out
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is an incurable optimist. Like most politicians, he doesn’t love giving up so easily. Despite all the wave of decamping of PDP governors to APC, one after the other, Atiku is not bothered. He is a seasoned politician. He does believe that the decamping of governors can lead to automatic votes for Pres. Tinubu and the APC.
He feels if the coalition members follow his Game plan, they will defeat Pres. Tinubu in the forthcoming 2027 elections. Atiku’s strategy is simple: let all the opposition leaders come together under a new party and contest against Tinubu. Like Atiku, many in the opposition camp have come to the realisation that only one candidate can’t defeat Tinubu.
His plan is to run for Presidency with Peter Obi. He sees that joker as the sure-fire solution to victory.
But there is a problem. Peter Obi is reluctant to be running mate to Atiku. He also wants to run for Presidency. Atiku and his camp believe that only a Northern Muslim candidate like Atiku running with a Southern Christian like Peter Obi can defeat Tinubu.
Dele Momodu echoed that view a few days back that coalition leaders should back a Northern candidate.
But the Obidient Movement has insisted that Peter Obi will not play a 2nd fiddle to anyone.
Atiku actually believes his strategy is the best for now. He says it is borne out of serious strategic thinking.
He also believes that of all the political players on the scene right now, he is the most experienced.
Don’t forget that he has been at it since 1993 and he has survived the tupsy-turvy nature of Politics in Nigeria.
Recently, Bashorun Dele Momodu hs been vocal about the 2027 presidential election, urging opposition parties to unite and strategize effectively to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Momodu believes the opposition must unite and play the “ethnic and religious cards” to challenge the APC’s dominance.
He predicts the APC will struggle to maintain power if the opposition presents a united front, suggesting a Northern Muslim presidential candidate with a Southern Christian running mate could be a winning formula.
Momodu accuses the APC of trying to stifle opposition and forcing them to join the ruling party.
Recently, he urged the opposition to unite and strategize effectively to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Momodu suggested that a Northern Muslim presidential candidate with a Southern Christian running mate could be a winning formula for the opposition.
Momodu emphasizes the importance of upholding democratic tenets and allowing political freedom to flourish. He advises President Bola Tinubu to prioritize democracy over economic achievements, warning that failure in democracy would be more regrettable.
As a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Momodu criticizes the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for being jittery ahead of the 2027 elections. He believes the APC is seeking to minimize competition, possibly through legal means.
Momodu expresses skepticism about politicians’ loyalty, stating that many defect due to personal interests rather than ideology. He specifically mentions FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s ambitions, suggesting Wike wants to dominate two parties simultaneously due to his substantial resources.
Momodu doubts former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential presidential bid in 2027, citing internal PDP opposition. He advocates for strategic consensus-building and primary elections to determine the party’s candidate.
Momodu criticizes politicians for prioritizing personal gain over public service, noting that many face intimidation or investigation from anti-corruption bodies at some point.
But can Atiku defeat Tinubu? Many think Atiku Abubakar’s chances of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election seem slim, according to various opinions. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, believes that even if Atiku and Peter Obi form an alliance, they wouldn’t stand a chance against Tinubu and his running mate.
The Presidency remains confident that Atiku and Obi won’t pose a significant threat to Tinubu’s potential re-election bid.
There are ongoing discussions about a possible coalition between Atiku and Obi, but nothing concrete has materialized yet.
Atiku has faced challenges in past elections, and Tinubu’s administration has maintained a strong grip on power.
Given these factors, while it’s not impossible for Atiku to defeat Tinubu, it would likely require a significant shift in the political landscape or a strong coalition behind him.
What is Atikus game plan or Strategy?
Atiku Abubakar’s game plan for the 2027 presidential election involves forming a broad coalition of opposition groups, regional leaders, creatives, and online influencers to challenge the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu. This strategy aims to unite various opposition forces under his leadership to increase their chances of winning the election.
Atiku plans to bring together different opposition groups and parties to form a strong alliance that can effectively challenge the ruling party.
His strategy includes engaging regional leaders, creatives, and online influencers to garner support and build a strong grassroots movement.
Atiku’s 5-point agenda for Nigeria focuses on restoring national unity through equity, social justice, and cooperation, as well as promoting a true federal system that guarantees national unity while allowing states to set their own priorities .
Can he run with Peter Obi?
Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have been mentioned in the same breath regarding a potential presidential ticket for the 2027 elections. In fact, there’s speculation about them forming a strong opposition ticket together, which could pose a significant challenge to President Bola Tinubu. A combination of Atiku and Obi on the same ticket could create a “co-presidency” scenario, allowing Nigerians to benefit from the ideas and experiences of both leaders.
Atiku and Obi have worked together before; Obi was Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 election. However, Obi later left the PDP to join the Labour Party.
There’s ongoing discussion about Atiku and Obi forming an alliance, possibly under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which they’ve adopted as the official platform for their opposition coalition.
The potential partnership between Atiku and Obi is seen as a strategically strong move, given their similar political ideologies and combined experience and support base.
Despite these developments, there are also challenges and uncertainties surrounding their potential partnership, including internal party dynamics and the need for careful consideration of various factors, such as zoning principles and the party’s constitution.
Will Peter Obi accept to be Atikus running mate?
It seems unlikely that Peter Obi will accept to be Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2027 presidential election. The Obidient Movement, a group supporting Peter Obi, has denied reports of Obi being considered for the position, calling them “imaginary.
In a statement, the group’s Director of Strategic communication and media, Nana Kazaure, emphasized that Peter Obi remains committed to the Labour Party and would continue to pursue his objectives of fighting bad governance, poverty, and other issues affecting Nigeria. The group urged Nigerians and the media to avoid sensationalism and speculation on the matter.
While there have been past instances where Atiku and Obi have worked together, including Obi being Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election, it appears that Obi’s current trajectory is focused on his own political path rather than joining Atiku as a running mate.
Can Peter Obi beat Atku at the party primaries?
Given the current dynamics, it’s challenging to predict with certainty.
The ADC leadership is reportedly worried about the delay in formal registration, which might affect the party’s momentum.
Some analysts believe the ADC is largely controlled by Atiku’s loyalists, which could potentially impact the primary election outcome.
Peter Obi’s grassroots support, particularly among young people, could be an asset in the primaries.
Both Atiku and Obi have significant backing and could potentially sway the outcome.
Why does Atiku think he can beat President Tinubu
Atiku Abubakar believes he can beat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election by forming a broad coalition of opposition groups, regional leaders, creatives, and online influencers. According to Dele Momodu, Atiku’s strategy is based on his strong support in various regions.
Atiku is expected to dominate the North East, North West, North Central, and South South regions, while being competitive in the South East and South West.
Momodu describes Atiku as the “most prepared and experienced candidate” who is ready to “hit the ground running” from day one.
Momodu believes Tinubu’s grip on the South West is weakening, and Obi’s popularity in the South East won’t be enough to secure a win.
However, the Presidency remains unconvinced, with Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, stating that Atiku and Obi cannot defeat Tinubu, even if they form an alliance.
