Tola Adeniyi gathers eminent Nigerians for Chapters Of Destiny, March 3

It will be a gathering of eminent Nigerians, as veteran journalist and Nigeria’s longest serving syndicated columnist, Akogun Tola Adeniyi, will on Tuesday, 3 March, 2026, launch his autobiography, Chapters of Destiny, in Ikeja, Lagos State.

 

Adeniyi is a former Chairman and Managing Director of the Daily Times Conglomerate. The event is billed to be another star-studded outing of Nigerian elites in the private and public spheres.

 

As contained in a press release on Friday by the chairman of the Public Presentation Committee, Dr Akinniyi Sowunmi, the book launch will be a gathering of the who-is-who across the country.

 

The spectacular event is the unveiling of the long-awaited story of Tola Adeniyi’s fully loaded life, encapsulated in the Chapters of Destiny, written by himself, in his own unique, open and no-holds-barred style.

 

 

Tola Adeniyi, a multi-talented, multi-titled chief, is easily one of the most intellectually engaging, scholarly enriching, philosophically stimulating and incredibly fearless journalists of all time.

 

An international journalist, his 67 active years in mass communication have seen him through radio and television, poetry-chanting, play-writing, play-producing, play-directing and adaptation of major classical novels for both the stage and television, drumming and dancing, as well as public speech-making.

 

 

Expected Guests

The morning event would host eminent Nigerians and crème de la crème from the diverse sectors and industries in Nigeria and the international turf, traversed at various times by the versatile octogenarian and holder of more than 25 traditional titles.

 

General Ike Nwachukwu, one-time Nigeria’s Minister of External Affairs, is the chairman for the occasion while Chief Adeniyi Akintola, SAN, is the Keynote Speaker.

 

Chief Sulaimon Adebola Adegunwa, Chairman, Rite Foods and Mr. Fola Adeola, co-founder and pioneer Managing Director of GT Bank, would unveil Chapters of Destiny.

 

Other distinguished co-presenters would also be on ground after a review by distinguished Cambridge professor, Anthony Kila.

 

Traditional rulers expected at the launch of the autobiography included the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Akarigbo of Remo, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi and the Olowo Eko, Oba Rilwan Osuolale Akiolu, among others.

 

Akogun Tola Adeniyi remains most respected for one of his famous newspaper columns, Aba Saheed that weekly rattled and sensitised the country from the early 70s till close of the last millennium.

 

He is reputed for fearless acerbic, satirical essays critical of Nigerian leaders, military and civilian.

 

He has worked in the media, public relations, entertainment, academic, business and was also a bureaucrat, who served as permanent secretary at the Presidency in Nigeria.

 

The above were aside from his academic, publishing, media and business endeavours outside the country, particularly in Canada and the United Kingdom (UK).

 

Tola Adeniyi has also been a consultant and adviser to the military and several politicians, particularly serving and former state governors, many of whom are expected to grace the occasion.

 

 

Few Comments By Eminent Nigerians

Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, described Chief Tola Adeniyi as “a foremost cultural icon, legendary journalist, fearless writer, and unrepentant custodian of Yoruba heritage.”

 

For a former federal lawmaker and a foremost guerrilla journalist, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, the author of Chapters of Destiny is “a fearless voice and a tireless warrior for change.”

 

John Araka, a former Director of the Times Journalism Institute (TJI), Lagos, sees Adeniyi as “celebrated and courageous in discussing national issues”, and who is “certainly a journalist per excellence.”

 

For Babatunde Ifenuga, the celebrated veteran journalist, is “a true definition of Omoluwabi, the Yoruba totality of virtue, value and character.”
