As Nigeria’s Afrobeats industry continues to gain global recognition, independent production companies are increasingly shaping the technical and creative infrastructure supporting emerging artists. Among them is TryTaped Recordings Limited, a Lagos-based music production company steadily positioning itself within the country’s evolving studio-led development ecosystem.
Operating with a philosophy centred on resilience, consistency, and disciplined artistic growth, TryTaped Recordings Limited has contributed to a number of emerging Afrobeats projects while strengthening its role as a collaborative production environment supporting next-generation Nigerian talent. The company’s guiding principle, “Keep up the good work, never give up,” reflects its internal creative culture and long-term development outlook.
Industry observers note that independent studios are playing an increasingly important role in shaping contemporary Afrobeats by supporting artists outside traditional label structures. TryTaped’s involvement in productions such as “Kigoma” by Dami Laylo and “Lawless” and “Yana” by Urktave reflects a broader shift toward studio-driven collaboration models within Nigeria’s music production landscape.
Creative direction at the company includes production leadership from Chizi Owhondah Natha-Amadi, popularly known as Urktave, whose engineering approach emphasises sonic clarity, layered instrumentation, and immersive listening experiences aligned with contemporary streaming standards. Analysts suggest that production-focused institutions like TryTaped are contributing to Lagos’ continued emergence not only as a performance hub but also as a technical centre influencing the global competitiveness of Afrobeats.
The company is led by Onyiyechi Gift Amadi, professionally known as AfroYana, whose leadership emphasises artist discipline, creative identity development, and long-term growth rather than short-term visibility metrics. Within Nigeria’s expanding independent music ecosystem, such leadership models are increasingly shaping alternative pathways for artist advancement beyond traditional label frameworks.
In line with its expanding production activities, TryTaped Recordings Limited has announced the forthcoming release of “Lay Lo,” a new single by Dami Laylo scheduled for global release on April 10, 2026, marking a defining moment in the artist’s evolving catalogue and a key collaboration with the Lagos-based studio.
“Lay Lo” reflects Dami Laylo’s signature melodic Afrobeats style, blending smooth vocal delivery with contemporary Afropop and Afro-fusion elements. The track captures the rhythmic vibrancy of Lagos while maintaining a calm, emotionally engaging sonic tone intended to resonate with both local and international audiences.
Born Damilola Olamilekan Osho, the artist represents a new generation of Nigerian performers contributing to the continued international expansion of Afrobeats through culturally grounded yet commercially adaptable sound production.
Production for the single was led by Urktave, producer and Creative Director at TryTaped Recordings Limited. His work on the record highlights the company’s commitment to advanced audio engineering and refined studio execution designed to enhance emotional depth and sonic clarity.
Known for his energetic studio presence, Urktave often uses the expression “Paralaylogram” during recording sessions to describe Dami Laylo’s creative momentum, symbolising continuous lyrical flow and artistic movement throughout the production process.
The collaboration between the artist and the production company was facilitated by Onyiyechi Gift Amadi , “AfroYana” Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TryTaped Recordings Limited and talent manager to Dami Laylo. Speaking on the project, she emphasised the mindset guiding the artist’s development:
“Beyond the music, it’s about discipline and self-awareness. I always remind him to stay calm, stay focused, speak less, and never see anyone as competition. Your only competition is who you were yesterday. Growth comes from within, and in this journey, humility is everything.”
According to the company, the release aligns with its broader institutional objective of contributing to the global expansion of African music through culturally authentic and commercially competitive recordings.
“Lay Lo” will be available on all major streaming platforms worldwide beginning April 10, 2026. The company also confirmed that its official website, www.trytaped.com, will be updated and upgraded on the same date as part of its expanding digital engagement strategy and international visibility plans.
