by Reporter

Ajara Lasisi, the Nigerian actress popularly known as Aunty Ajara in the Yoruba film industry, has passed on. She passed away in the early hours of Thursday, as confirmed by her family.

The news was announced by Ridwan Lasisi, her brother, in a heartfelt video message

Ridwan extended deep gratitude on behalf of the family. He thanked the film community for their outpouring of support.

He also made a specific plea to the public, asking that the stream of financial assistance sent for her medical care be halted.

“Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.

“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.

“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”

The actress’ health struggles became public knowledge last week after a public appeal for support was shared by her colleague Ronke Oshodi-Oke.

Oshodi-Oke had revealed that Lasisi was hospitalised in critical condition, relying on an oxygen machine, and that her health was deteriorating despite extensive medical care and substantial financial cost.

Aunty Ajara was celebrated for her compelling and often maternal roles in terrestrial-themed stories. She graced the screen in numerous popular films, including ‘Gingerrr’, ‘Queen Lateefah’, and ‘Isiti’.

Last year, the actress shared a personal tragedy, revealing that she had once lost a child.
