• Returns to Lagos…

A delegation of Airpeace Ambassadors, by Nigerian football legend Dr. Segun Odegbami, MON, OLY, has returned to Lagos after an emotional condolence visit to the family of the late Christian Chukwu, MFR, the iconic former captain and coach of Nigeria’s national football team, fondly known as “Chairman.”

The visit, which took place in Enugu on Tuesday, brought together eight respected football icons who served alongside Chukwu. Despite the emotional weight of the occasion, the visit ended on a warm and comforting note for the grieving family. The widow, Lillian Chukwu, expressed deep appreciation for the solidarity and support shown by her late husband’s former teammates.

Among those who made the trip were Dr. Felix Owolabi, MON; Dr. Bruce Ijirigho; Dr. Godwin Obasogie; Mr. Frank Onwuachi, MON; Mr. Sylvanus Okpala, MON, OON; Mr. Charlton Ehizuelen; Mr. Uche Okechukwu; and Dr. Olusegun Odegbami himself. They were joined in a group photograph by Enugu State’s Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu.

The journey also included a heartfelt stop at the residence of ailing former goalkeeper and fellow AirPeace Ambassador, Emmanuel Okala, MON — fondly nicknamed “Tallest” — where the delegation offered support and encouragement.

The initiative was made possible by Dr. Allen Onyema, Chairman of AirPeace Airline, who kick-started financial support towards a befitting national burial for one of Nigeria’s greatest football icons. The burial has now been officially scheduled for August 16, 2025.

“This was a truly moving visit,” said Odegbami, who promised to share more details in his upcoming Diary of the Memorable Visit.
