Today, August 14, 2025, is a very special day as we celebrate a remarkable man, a respected elder statesman, a father, a teacher, and a true son of Osun — Alhaji Abdul Jelili Adesiyan, who turns 70 years old.

Born on this day in 1955 in the quiet and culturally rich town of Lagere, Ile Oke Agba Ode-Omu in Ayedaade Local Government Area, Alhaji Adesiyan’s life has been nothing short of inspiring. From his early days, he showed signs of determination, intelligence, and a deep love for knowledge — qualities that have shaped the man we celebrate today.

A solid foundation in education

He began his educational journey at A.U.D. Primary School, Ode-Omu, and completed it in 1968. From there, he moved on to Ahmadiyya Grammar School, Iwo, and later Victory High School, Ikeja. Like many young Nigerians of his time, he was focused on building a future through education, and he took every step seriously.

In 1980, he enrolled at the Oyo State College of Education, Ilesa, where he earned a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) in History and Yoruba Studies. But he didn’t stop there. He went on to the prestigious University of Ibadan, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Adult Education and History in 1988. Then he returned to complete a Master’s in Adult and Industrial Education in 1991.

It’s clear from his educational background that Alhaji Adesiyan is not just a man of titles, but someone who believes in lifelong learning and the power of education to transform lives.

A teacher, a leader, a servant

Alhaji Adesiyan is, first and foremost, a teacher at heart. He started out as a classroom teacher, impacting young lives at Community High School in Ibadan and Victory High School in Lagos. He believed in shaping the next generation and took great pride in his role as a mentor and educator.

His journey later took him to the private sector, where he brought his intellect and work ethic to companies like Guinness Nigeria Limited and Johnson White United. No matter where he worked, he stood out for his integrity, humility, and commitment to excellence.

His heart, however, was always drawn to public service — a space where he could contribute to a better Nigeria. He served as Commissioner for Education in Osun State, a role in which he left behind lasting footprints. His time in that office is remembered for meaningful reforms and sincere efforts to improve the educational system in the state.

He later served as Director General in the State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, showing his versatility and strong administrative skills. Perhaps the most notable of his public service roles was his appointment as Minister of State for Police Affairs, where he brought focus, discipline, and a deep sense of duty to national security issues.

A humble giant

Despite all his achievements and positions of power, Alhaji Adesiyan has remained humble, accessible, and deeply connected to his roots. He is a proud ambassador of Ayedaade Local Government and has always used his voice and influence to promote peace, development, and unity in his community and across Osun State.

A family man and mentor

Beyond his public life, Alhaji Adesiyan is a loving husband, father, grandfather, and mentor to many. His home is a place of wisdom and warmth, where younger generations often turn for guidance and encouragement. His values of honesty, hard work, and discipline are clearly reflected in the lives of those around him.

Celebrating a living legend

At 70, Alhaji Abdul Jelili Adesiyan is not just growing older, but growing even more respected. His story is a powerful reminder that with patience, hard work, and service to others, anyone can leave a lasting legacy.

So today, as we celebrate this milestone birthday, we honour not just the man, but the values he represents. We thank him for his service, for his sacrifices, and for being a shining example of what it means to live for others.

From his hometown of Ode-Omu to the corridors of national power in Abuja, and across every community he has touched, Alhaji Adesiyan is held in high esteem.

Here’s wishing you, Alhaji Abdul Jelili Adesiyan, a joyful 70th birthday filled with peace, health, and the continued love of family and friends. May this new chapter bring even more blessings and may your legacy continue to shine for generations to come.

Happy 70th birthday, Alhaji!
