As the race for 2026 Osun Governorship race hots up, more and more aspirants have been coming out to show interest in the race.
In the APC, about 8 strong gubernatorial aspirants have come out to slug it out with the incumbent Governor, Senator Ademola Adelek, who is also going for a 2nd term.
They are Quality & Qualified Aspirants like Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Senator Basiru Ajibola, Hon. Olugboyega Alabi, Hon. Biola Oyebamiji, Chief Dotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi and Mr. Rasheed Adegoke.
What makes the APC list of aspirants all the more interesting is the fact all the 8 have solide credentials. Senator Iyiola Omisore was the Deputy Governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003. He was Senator for Osun East between 2003-2011.
He has contested for Governorship seat twice, 2014 and 2018. He has 2 Engineering degrees and a postgraduate certificate from Brunei University and a Ph.D in Infrastucture Finance from the International School of Management, Paris France.
Senator Babajide Omoworare is the Senator for Osun East, 2011-2019. He is a Lawyer and has received the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) National Award.
How about Senator Basiru Ajibola? He is a distinguished Lawyer.
He has a Bachelor of Laws, Master of Law and a Ph.D in Property Law.
He is the Senator for Osun Central 2019-2023. He was one Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice for Osun State 2014-2018. He is currently the National Secretary for APC.
Hon. Olugboyega Alabi was the Deputy Governor of Osun State 2018-2022. He is a Banking & Finance expert. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Banking & Finance, and a Master’s degree in Economics.

He has a Ph.D in Insurance and Risk Management.
Hon. Rasheed Adegoke in his own case is an eminent Lawyer. He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) with over 2 decades of legal, business and civic experience.
He has a Bachelor of Laws.
He is a Constitutional Lawyer and policy thinker.

He was elected Senator for Osun East (Ife/Ijesa) 2011-2019 under ACN. He was re-elected in March 2015 as an APC candidate.

He served as Commissioner for Finance during ex-Gov. Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola’s tenure.
Before his tenure as Commissioner, he held the position of MD/CEO of Omoluabi Holdings Limited. In 2023, he served as Special Adviser to ex-Gov. Gboyega Oyetola, the pioneer Minister of Marine & Blue Economy.

Ajibola Bashiru was born on 1st July 1972. He has had a distinguished career in Law & Politics. He studied Arabic & Islamic Studies at the University of Ilorin before switching to Law at the University of Lagos, where he earned LLB degree and LLM with specialisations in Secured Credit Transactions, Planning & Compulsory Acquisition, Law of the Sea, and Comparative Company Law. He obtained a Ph.D in Property Law also from UNILAG in 2016.
He has served as Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District from 2019 to 2023. He was also former AG and Commissioner for Justice in Osun State, former Commissioner for Regional Integration & Special Duties.
He was elected as APC National Secretary.
He made significant contributions to the development of Osun State during his tenure as Commissioner & Senator.
The incumbent governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke is also preparing.
He won at the last election on July 16th, 2022 and the PDP won with 403,371 votes defeating the then governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the APC who recorded 375,027 votes.
