BIC Introduces Cristal Pen with 3 Kilometre Writing Capacity

BIC Nigeria has launched a campaign highlighting its iconic Cristal pen’s ability to write for up to three kilometres, setting a new standard for durability in the writing instruments market. This encourages students and professionals to stay focused on learning, not looking for a new pen every week.

This new focus on writing capacity coincides with BIC’s 75th anniversary celebrations, making the 3 3-kilometre claim both a nod to its heritage and a statement of innovation. The emphasis on long-lasting performance appeals to cost-conscious consumers who want value and consistency from their stationery purchases. With the back-to-school season in full swing, the campaign is expected to boost sales and strengthen BIC Cristal’s status as a must-have writing tool in classrooms and offices across Nigeria.

Shell buys Dangote petrol cargo

Shell has acquired a cargo of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, marking another key milestone in Dangote’s ambition to transition Nigeria from a nation heavily dependent on fuel imports to one that also exports. The deal is part of growing evidence that Dangote Refinery’s product quality meets international standards, particularly for petroleum products, and that global firms are taking notice. Shell’s purchase came as a third shipment of Dangote petrol heads to the United States, underlining emerging trade flows from Nigeria’s largest refinery to international markets.

This helps to reduce Nigeria’s longstanding fuel import bill internationally, it helps validate the Dangote facility’s capacity and reliability. The refinery, which is capable of processing 650,000 barrels per day, has only in recent times begun exporting gasoline to meet stringent US fuel specifications. These transactions enhance Nigeria’s energy diplomacy and trade position, potentially attracting further foreign interest, investment, and better pricing dynamics for the refinery’s outputs.

Gino, Hilda Baci break world record for the largest jollof rice pot

In September 2025, Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci, in collaboration with Gino Nigeria, accomplished a new Guinness World Record by cooking the largest-ever serving of jollof rice in a single pot. The quantity cooked was 8,780 kilograms, and the cooking took about nine hours. This feat required not only huge resources in terms of ingredients and logistics, but also sustained human effort, coordination, and infrastructural support, including a specially fabricated giant pot.

Beyond the sheer spectacle, this achievement has cultural resonance. Jollof rice is more than food; it is a symbol of West African culinary identity and often a subject of friendly rivalry among Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and others. Setting such a record delivers both prestige and positive publicity; it reinforces Nigeria’s standing in regional cuisine, draws attention to the vibrancy of its food industry, and provides a platform for culinary tourism and related businesses. It also sends a message about the possibility of large-scale food production done in ways that mobilise thousands of people, media and national pride.

Starlink halts new subscriptions in Lagos, Abuja

Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite-internet service, has temporarily stopped accepting new residential subscriptions in Lagos and Abuja. The company announced that its network capacity in these areas has been reached, meaning that adding new users could degrade service quality for existing subscribers.

For prospective customers in areas such as Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Surulere, and parts of Abuja, this means they will have to join waitlists rather than being able to purchase immediately. The issue reflects the challenge of scaling satellite broadband to meet fast-growing demand, especially in urban areas where interest is high.

The new detergent, packaged in vibrant pink branding, is designed to combine the brand’s powerful stain-removing formula with a fresh, pleasant fragrance that appeals to a younger and more style-conscious audience.
