On Sunday, 30th January 2022, at the Swiss International Hotel, Victoria Garden City Garden, Lagos, friends and family members gathered for the first remembrance of the late philanthropist, Alhaji Abdul Fatai Adio Animashaun, the Borokini of Lagos State.
Before his death, he belonged to many top Islamic groups in Lagos, which he supported with all his wealth. He transformed the Animashaun Mosque into a modern Mosque with millions of naira. He also owned many high rise buildings in Lagos, mostly painted in blue and white.
The event, which lasted for about 2 hours had many socialites in attendance. Before his death, he maintained a very cordial relationship with Olu Itori and Chief Wale Adesina (Saranda).
He was a very religious man, who touched many lives positively during his lifetime.
It was a white-and-blue event as all guests looked really good in their different white outfits.
An endowment was also launched in honour and memory of the philanthropist to continue his act of giving and caring for the less privileged in society.
Many dignitaries made it to the event. They include Olu Itori and wife, Wale Saranda and wife, Prince Fuhad Oloto and wife, Olori Oniru, Bisola Munis Olori Showemimo, Iya Sala, Alanshiku of Lagos, Saheed Timeyin, Head of Language Studies, LASU, Imam Akewusola of Lagos and a host of others.
For many who don’t know much about Alhaji Fatai Animashaun before his death,
Alhaji Chief Abdul Fatai Abayomi Animashaun was born 65 years ago.
He attended Anwar-un-Deen Primary School, Elegbata for his formative education. He proceeded to a Quranic School in Ilorin, where he spent many years furthering his education and acquiring sound Islamic knowledge that set him on the path of success in life.
He returned to Lagos and started as a young merchant with the exportation of hides and skin business from Northern Nigeria. He later became an import and export merchant to Saudi Arabia. As a businessman of Immense pedigree, he enlarged his coast when he diversified into the real estate business to fill the yawning gap for good and comfortable market shop apartments. He was a man of many parts and a devoted Muslim who never joked with prayers. He influenced family and friends to inculcate the practice of Islam. He single-handedly reconstructed Animashaun Mosque from a bungalow to a 2-storey building and this earned him the title of Baba Adinni of the Mosque. Due to his generous contribution to the course of Allah and Islamic religion in general, the Lagos Central Mosque bestowed on him the title of Borokinni Adinni of Lagos.
He was the founder and President of Arafat Progressive before changing the name of the society to the Fathiat Islamic Society of Nigeria. He was a student and a grassroots member of Tijaniyat Group through Sawiat Ile Arugbo in Pakata, Ilorin, Kwara State.
He was humble and passionate about doing good to people in all divides. He exemplified humanity in every respect and was a firm believer that nothing happens except by Allah’s doing.
He left a positive indelible mark on the sands of time, sadly, he left with many promising good deeds yet delivered.
