Alhaji Sirajudeen Akani Asukuna is a popular Muslim cleric in Lagos who many Moslems hold in high esteem. He is the National Chief Missioner & General Overseer, Amir Zakireen of Oyo State. He presides over HIZBULLAHI International Prayer Outreach Ministry with National Headquarters at No 2 Freeman Street, Ebute-Metta (East) Lagos.
He is currently building a state of the art Mosque at Ebute Metta. It is a gargantuan edifice. It is huge with many floors. How far with the growth of the Mosque, we asked.
“We thank God we are growing in our Society. We are waxing more stronger than ever before. All glory be to Almighty Allah for that. I could remembered vividly that you interviewed me 2 years ago in which I told you about the emergence of our new Mosque. At that time, we just got the land, but to the Glory of God, the Mosque is on and we have done a lot”.
“As I am talking now we are at the 4th level, its a 4th storey. We are just at the finishing level now. That is why I am pleading with men and women of good will to come and assist us. We need all forms of assistance like finishing materials like doors, water closet. It is a multi-million naira project. I can’t do it all alone.

Why did he decide to embark on a Mosque? “It is part of our plan and agenda as a society. It is not just an ordinary Mosque to pray. It has been designed as an Islamic centre. We would have an elementary school there. We are going to have a mini-clinic, for the benefit of the people in the area. We would have an event hall, for all kinds of Islamic social activities like marriage, naming whatever. But all that will not involve alcohol. That is why I say it is a multi-million naira project, not just an ordinary Mosque. It has been in our plan, since the inception of this society, in which we thank God that Allah made it possible for us”.
We got him to tell us more about the society. “To the Glory of God, the society Hhizbullahi Prayer Ministry was founded in year 2000. We are 23 years old”.
How has it been running the ministry? What has been the challenges? “The challenges are so enormous, too numerous to mention, but with doggedness, and focus and with Allah on our side, we scaled through. Alhamdulillahi”.
We got him to tell us about his own story. We got him to tell us about Sheikh Asukuna. Who is he? And how did the story start?
“I am self-made. I made myself. I didn’t plan for where I am today. I met myself there, I didn’t plan for it. It wasn’t intended. That is how God wants it for me. I am a socialite. For me to have become a Missioner like this is the work of God. It is the Grace of God.”
It is divine. It is from Almighty God. I, Alhaji Surajudeen Akanni Asukuna happens to be the Founder & Chief Missioner of this Society, HIZBULLAHI International Prayer Outreach Ministry.
By last year Almighty Allah added another feather to my cap, by appointing me as the Amir Zakireen of Oyo State, in which I was turbanned publicly at Ojaoba Central Mosque in Ibadan. As the Amir Zakireen of Oyo State making me the head of all new generation Asalatu Union for the whole of Oyo State by the Chief Imam of Oyo State, the grand Imam of Ibadanland, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Ajigbo ti o mo kekere.”
“May Almighty Allah, enlongate his life. So, I thank God for his life. We have been on this propagation now for years. It has affected my social life. My social life has reduced since the past 23 years ago, since I took up this evangelical programme.”
“Almighty Allah has been blessing me because I have been doing his work. We are a society to reckon with in Lagos State. Alhamdulillahi for that. We thank God for that. We are happy with the coming in of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. That is what we have been praying for. We thank God for the election. He will be sworn-in Insa Allah as the President, by the Grace of Almighty Allah, come 29th May, 2023. Many people can’t wait to see May 29. Everybody’s hope is on that man. That is why we are prayerful for him. So that Almighty Allah will guide and guard him to deliver all what is in his mind for Nigeria, because it is mission that Almighty Allah accomplish for him. So, may Almighty Allah be with him and continue to give him more wisdom to take this canoe to the promised land.
