How do you cope doing Music and at the same time being an entrepreneur?
First of all, let me greet Lagos. And by the way, I am married now. Some people know me as an artist, a Tanzanian artist. Some know me as a businessman. And my inlaw know me as Priscilla Ojo’s husband. If you have an opportunity to make money, find a way to make money.
You see all the billionaire musicians it is not only in music they make their money. Jayz and the rest have businesses. It is good to have a brand as an artist. If you love to cook, have a restaurant; if you love fashion, have a clothing line; if you are a producer, have a studio. I have a brand before I have my brand If I wear my shoes, T-shirts, and clothes for a brand, my fans like what I wear, and they want to know where I get it from; that is what brought about my brand. My brand is number 1 in East Africa. You know as a musician, you already have people that will support you, so I decided to start the business.
You are a bongo flava genre, what will you do to stay relevant on the music industry most especially now that you are superstar?
I started as an R&B singer, but in the music industry, everything changes every day, new generations come and go, and one needs to do new things. If you want to stay relevant in the industry, like you said, I do Bongo Flava. I had to do what is difficult, and what I don’t do, people that know me know that I don’t dance. But I have to change to Amapiano.
People were surprised when they saw me dance, it was difficult, but at the end of the day my fans liked it and the song was the 1st in my country, in music you must learn to think outside the box. I had to call DJ Tariko for the amapiano. Look at Chris Brown, Davido, and Wizkid; they did not stay in one place. You can also remix like Burna Boy Lamba. There is also some play like Fela song and the likes. We have people like DJ Kaleed. Most people know the song, but they don’t know him as a producer. You can be successful in your way depending on how the person wants to achieve it.
