As They Celebrate 20 Yrs Anniversary
That Honourable Desmond Olusola Elliot is fast becoming one of the young emerging political voices in Lagos is no longer in doubt. That the Lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency 1 is also enjoying tons of love and support from members of his constituent is also not in doubt. What might perhaps shock many is the fact, this young, vibrant and dynamic politician whose political exploits in the last few years has been nothing short of impressive, is already being penciled down by the top echelon of the APC in Lagos as one of the potential forces on whose shoulders the party would stand in the not too distant future. This surely may not come as a surprise to those who know this brilliant Lawmaker very closely. He has, within a short while in politics, proven that he’s got tremendous potentials to become one of the most accomplished politicians in the land. He has held his own as a young Lawmaker. He has moved motions on the floor of the House that have impacted positively on his people, aside doing his bit to bring the dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of his people. He has also had his own fair share of political topsy-turvy. Every politician has their good days and bad days. But give it to Hon. Desmond Elliot, he handled those bad days well. He came out of it all unscathed and with his head held high. No one should be surprised how he has weathered the storms and still continues to stand firmly on his feet. Without a doubt, his profile has been on a steady rise in the last couple of years. And if you’re wondering how he’s come this far within such a short while, it is because he has learned from the best. He has learnt from the President, a man he holds in extremely high esteem, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And he has also learned from the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, who has been like a political mentor to him, and lastly from his political leader and godfather, former speaker of House of Representatives and current Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
But that is not the big news. The big news is that this dashing young politician, a political force to reckon with in Surulere and in Lagos as a whole, is celebrating his 20th wedding anniversary. He has been married to his gorgeous looking wife, Victoria, for 20 long years and they have enjoyed nothing but absolute marital bliss ll through those long 20 years. The lovely have four adorable children between them who were born as two sets of twins.
Honourable Desmond said in his wedding anniversary tribute to his wife: ”20 years gone by and I love you more and more each passing day. We have been through the mills, tough times and pains. We are going through happy feeling , experiences and thrills. What’s most heartwarming is , we are doing it …TOGETHER.”
The fond post contained lovely pictures of them exchanging little kisses, dressed in matching outfits. In his caption, Elliot continued to express his gratitude towards his wife for being there for him and standing by him.
He continued, ”Thank you for putting up with this occasionally strong headed person. Thank you being a shoulder to cry on, lie on and sleep on. Thank you for being my partner, my friend ,my WIFE. Thank you for being BABAMAI. I love(d)you then. I love you now. I love you tomorrow. Yours, Dezinbong.”
The post was welcomed with congratulatory messages and goodwill from Elliot’s followers and fans in the comment section. Elliot and his wife got married on December 26, 2003 and have since welcomed four children; two sets of twins. Their first set of twins Denzel and Desmond Junior were born in 2006, while Donald and Dawn were born in 2010.
How has he been able to achieve such stability and longevity in his marriage considering that these days, celebrity marriages are falling apart like a pack of cards, we asked him?
“If you love your home, that’s where your heart will be,” he answered. “I’m yet to see someone who really loves his home that will want it to break. Do we have difficulties, of course yes! There is no home without its challenges.. There are times the woman is tired, there are times the man is tired too, but the most important thing is understanding ourselves. One thing I have noticed in a marriage is that you must understand that a man is totally different from a woman. The way a man thinks is totally different from the way a woman thinks. What a man considers as priority is 80% different from what a woman considers as priority. And one of the most difficult things in this world is understanding a woman. But if you understand a woman, what tickles them, what makes them happy, smile, you will not have a problem with them. Men that live long understand that principle. And I intend to live long.”
What then is a woman’s priority? What should the man give the woman, we quizzed him further? “A woman’s priority is attention, love, but a man looks at security, a man looks at. “I want to protect my family, I want to make sure I feed them.” If you don’t have money, but you tell a woman I love you 10 million times, I’m talking of in a marriage situation now, and the woman sees prospects, the woman sees a hardworking man, she’s okay. Give a woman what she wants, she’s okay”.
So, how has he been able to understand this early in life? “Who told you it was early?” he responded. “It wasn’t early o, till now, I still never understand finish, I’m telling. You must understand the woman’s good days and her bad days. Don’t ask for too much and don’t expect too much. Most importantly, just make sure that you’re happy at all times. If you’re happy, then it rubs off on your home.”
He was once quoted as having said he desired to have seven children, is he still hoping to achieve this? I do not mind at all, because I love kids. My dad had 11, my mum had five. So, ours was a large family. So, its not because we were not many that I want to have a large family. I just love kids. Yes, I would’ve loved to have a family of seven kids. But not now anyway. A lot has changed from the time I expressed that desire and now. Raising lots of kids is very expensive now.”
