It was celebration galore on Saturday 23rd of September, 2023, when the old students of Estate Grammar School, Ilupeju Lagos celebrated her Alma-mater 40th founders Day Amid Funfaire. The school was established in September 5, 1983 by then Executive Governor of Lagos State, late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande (Baba Kekere).
The citadel of learning has since sendforth young boys and girls who has grown up to be responsible adults in the society.
To celebrate her 40th historic anniversary, the old students association (EGSOSA) led by their president and other executive members appointed a special planning committe to execute the memorable event.
The week long activities started on Sunday, September 17, 2023 with a thanksgiving service at Salem Evangelical Church of Christ, Ilupeju in Lagos, which witnessed a large turned out of old students and the present students of school. Special prayers were offered to both the old and present students by the leader of church, Special Apostle Abraham Babatunde Odele JP.
In the spirit of giving back to her Alma-mata and society at large, the association held a career talk with the students on Monday, September 18, 2023 and a medical check-ups for all teaching and non-teaching staff of the school on Tuesday September, 2023.
Furthermore, on Wednesday, September, 20, 2023, a powerful delegation led by Mrs. Habila Iyah Sanni paid a courtesy visit to S.O.S. children in Isolo, Lagos to donate consummable and sanitary wares to the orphanage centre.
On Thursday, September 21, 2023, various sporting activities were held in the school, table tennis, chess, ludo game as well as an organised football match between the old students and the present student.
The Muslim faithful were not left out as they converged to Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye LCDA Central Mosque on Town Planning Way, Ilupeju to observed the Jummat Service, they were led by Alhaji Ajalaruru.
The grand finale cum award ceremony was held on Saturday September 23, 2023 on the school field Amid Fanfare. The guests and the celebrants seated beautifully according to their set in there different gorgeous attires with a customised (Aso-Oke) cap and headgear.
The master of ceremony, Adeolu Okunade (Mr. Pilot) from Bond FM 92.9, welcomed all distinguished guests and acknowledge each set, starting from the 1988 set to the current final year students.
After the introduction of the special guests to the high-table, both the national anthem and school anthem was recited by the students of the school intermittently.
The national general secretary of EGSOSA, Engr. Hammed Ajayi gave a brief history of the school right from when it was first established till date.
After the history of the school was the reeled out EGSOSA President, Hon. Oluwashina Gbenjo’s reiterated the importance of each set coming together as one for the betterment of the school as a whole and thanked everyone who has supported them, financially, morally and spiriritually.
Thereafter, the EGS senior school principal, Mr Egunyomi Joseph gave his welcome speech, where he welcomed all guests to the event. After the principal’s speech was the keynote address of the Honorable Commissioner for education dully represented by the director of Basics Education Services, Mr Adeyemi Adebayo. In his speech he shared different visions of the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu concerning education.
After the address by the representative of the Commissioner of Education was the awards presentation to the awardees.
The first award was to the seniors secondary school categories.
Felix Godson is a bright student who was able to receive up to 5 awards and cash prizes at the event. He was the best student in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Further mathematics and visual art.
Ugo Emmanuel was another bright student that received different awards and the best student in Economics, Office Practice, Commerce, Accounting and was declared the overall best students in the senior secondary school.
Other students who received awards were: Enilolobo Ayomide the best student in English Language. Akaka Ebube the best student in Physics. Simon Destiny the best student in Government. Ahmed Tijani the best student in Agric. Dada Elizabeth the best student in Literature. Azeez Eniola the best student in Islamic studies. Oyetoro Samson the best student in Marketing. Yusuf Aisha, the best student in Food and Nutrition. Oluremi Damilola the best student in Catering Craft. Adeshina Baraka the best student in Computer. Adeyemo Sukura the best student in Yoruba.
At the junior secondary school category, a little boy almost took all the awards at the event.
Bamigbade Raji can easily be called the most intelligent student as he alone received 7 awards. He was awarded the best student in English Language, Mathematics, Physical and Health Education, Civic Education, Basic Science and technology and Business Studies and was also declared the overall best student in the junior school.
Other students who received awards are:
Yusuf Azeezat, the bes student in ICT, Agriculture Science and CCA.
Ogbade Emmanuel the best student in Christian Religious Knowledge.
Some teachers also received awards at the event.
Mr Fadey was awarded the best teacher in the junior school and Mr Adeoye was awarded the best teacher in the secondary school.
The association also decided to respect some of their members who had died and recognized their families by also awarding their families.
The Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye L.C.D.A, Hon. Olushola Rasak Ajala was also present at the event and also received an award after which he gave his speech. In his speech he promised to keep supporting the school.
After the presentation of awards was the cutting of the celebration cake which was cut in the presence of the EGSOSA National Executive Council and the distinguished guests.
The vote of thanks was rendered by the EGS Junior School Principal, Mrs Oyeniran Kehinde.
