The City People team recently paid a special visit to Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, the renowned Global President and Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) and Chancellor of Kings University. During this exclusive engagement, Pastor Ashimolowo, known for his transformative leadership and spiritual influence across nations, shared how his “helicopter view” of life continues to fuel his success.
At 72 years old, Pastor Ashimolowo remains deeply committed to the work of God, dispelling rumours of his retirement. He revealed to the City People team that his schedule remains packed—preaching daily from Monday to Friday, teaching wealth creation on Saturdays, and leading three Sunday services, all while travelling to London weekly for additional ministerial engagements. According to him, this busy routine keeps him both spiritually and physically energized.
During the visit, Pastor Ashimolowo shared the remarkable story of how he entered the ministry, initially dreaming of following in his father’s footsteps as a soldier. However, a prophetic encounter with Matthew Adediran shifted his path, leading him into a ministry that now spans 14 nations, including Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe and the UK.
Recalling his early years, Pastor Ashimolowo spoke fondly of his time at Foursquare Gospel Church in Shomolu, Lagos, where he met his wife and was nurtured spiritually. The visit also touched on KICC’s growth since its founding in 1992. Despite initial opposition, Pastor Ashimolowo’s leadership and perseverance have made KICC a global powerhouse in the Christian community.
In addition to his ministry, Pastor Ashimolowo discussed his ventures in real estate, having been involved in the sector for 35 years. He highlighted the key areas Nigeria needs to focus on for future progress which he termed as the 5 Es—economy, environment, electricity, engineering, and electronics.
