Leila Fowler, founder of the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, is dead.
The educationist died on Saturday at the age of 91.
The institution confirmed her death in a statement issued on Sunday.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved founder, Chief (Mrs.) Leila Fowler, on Saturday, September 6, 2025,” the statement reads.
“Chief (Mrs.) Fowler was a true pioneer, an erudite lawyer, and a visionary educationalist who founded Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in 1991.
“Her life was a testament to the power of empowering young women through education.
”She was a devout Christian, a lover of music, and a philanthropist who mentored countless educators and leaders.
“Her guidance and motherly warmth built not just a school, but a community dedicated to excellence.
“We will deeply miss her presence and wisdom, but her legacy of service, faith, and dedication will continue to inspire us all.”
Fowler, born in 1933, began her education at CMS Girls’ School in Lagos.
She later moved to Queen of the Rosary College, Onitsha, before travelling to London to further her studies.
