In an exclusive interview with City People Assistant Editor and Head of City People TV, Sunday Adigun, Kehinde Fadahunsi shares her journey, insights, and passion for beauty.

Q: What inspired you to venture into the makeup business?

A: It all started from watching TV! I was captivated by beauty segments on shows like Goldmyne TV, where personalities like Kiki shared fashion and beauty hacks. I realized that many people struggled with makeup—some couldn’t match colors, while others had no idea how to enhance their features properly. That fascinated me! Makeup isn’t just a daily routine; it’s an art, and not everyone gets it right. That realization drove me to perfect my skills and help others look their best.

Q: What sets your brand apart?

A: Makeup is more than just applying powder and lipstick; it’s an expression of who you are. When people see you, your face speaks before you do. I educate my clients on makeup as a tool for confidence, not disguise. There was a time when people believed their foundation should be either lighter or darker than their skin tone—this is a myth! I teach my clients that their foundation should match their natural skin tone perfectly. Less is always more, and beauty should feel effortless, not forced.

Q: How did your journey into the industry begin?

A: I started as an intern. My first experience in the field came when I was assigned to the makeup department. My boss at the time, Mrs. Kemi Shodolamu, was a nursing mother, so I had to step in frequently. Eventually, my team recognized my potential and trusted me to handle more responsibilities. That was the turning point for me!

Q: Tell us a little about your background.

A: I was born and raised in Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos. I come from a large family—I’m the first daughter of eight children, with six brothers and one younger sister. Growing up in a big family taught me resilience, creativity, and the importance of standing out, which has helped me thrive in the beauty industry.

Q: What do people need to understand about beauty?

A: First, everyone is beautiful! Makeup is just a tool to enhance what is already there—it doesn’t define you. As makeup artists, we aren’t surgeons. Some clients come in expecting us to erase their natural features completely, but that’s not what makeup is about. For example, contouring can create the illusion of a slimmer face, but it won’t change your bone structure. Many edited pictures on social media give people unrealistic expectations, so I always educate my clients about the difference between real-life makeup and digitally enhanced images.

Q: Do you sell your own makeup products?

A: Not yet, but I retail high-quality Nigerian and international beauty brands. I believe in offering my clients the best products to achieve flawless, long-lasting makeup.

Q: What’s next for your brand?

A: I plan to expand into full cosmetology and skincare. Many people struggle with skin issues due to harmful products marketed as “organic” skincare solutions. True skincare isn’t just about external application—it’s about nourishing the skin from within. My goal is to help people achieve glowing skin the right way, without damaging their natural beauty.
