Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has vowed to ensure that star player Cristiano Ronaldo returns for the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup coming up at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
Ronaldo was sent off in the 81st minute of the Super Cup contest against Barcelona at Camp Nou after a second booking for appearing to have dived in the 18-yard box; although a video play back showed that there was a contact between him (Ronaldo) and Barca defender Umtiti.
Zidane felt Ronaldo who came in as a substitute in the second half didn’t deserve to be sent off let alone been suspended for the return leg of the tie.
“We played a great game but I am annoyed by Cristiano’s sending-off.
“Perhaps it wasn’t a penalty but the red card is a little harsh. We can’t change it, but we’ll try and make sure he plays on Wednesday.”
Meanwhile, Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has admitted that his side are far from being superb and were exposed after Real Madrid caught them on the counter-attack on two different occasions which resulted into goals and leaving the Catalans with a mountain to climb.
“I don’t have the sensation we were as far away from them as the scoreline suggests. They scored three times, but we played well and had our chances.
“They caught us on the counter-attack when it was 1-1 and scored a great goal, and then another one. But it’s not just about getting into the danger zone – it’s about putting your chances away.”
