Like all fathers are always proud to see their daughter do so well, so also is Mr Yomi Ibidapo Obe, the amazing father of popular actress cum businesswoman, Bisi Ibidapo Obey popularly called Omologbalogba. He was one of the early callers at their daughters 45th birthday 2 weekends back and he happily had a short interview with City People Publisher, SEYE KEHINDE and Society Editor, TAYO OYEDIJI where he spoke glowingly about his daughter.
How do you feel today that your daughter is celebrating her birthday?
I’m overwhelmed because Bisi right from inception has been a wonderful child. Every activity of hers is very fine at all times so I’m overwhelmed.
Sir, what are the qualities about Bisi that you can say?
She is a lady with vision and whatever she wants to do I pray she always accomplish it. She has a high determination of accomplishing things. She has high taste in everything because I have looked at her right from inception, she has been a wonderful child.
It is not every parent that wants their children to go into acting, how did you feel when she told you that..?
That is a wonderful question, now when she told me many years back when she was staying with me then, I said what do you mean?, “omo oni theatre “ No, I don’t like that, I don’t want it, you want to spoil the name of the family? So I wasn’t in support. So along the line, she went to her mother and then they convinced me then. I also asked an elderly person and the person said I should let her be and just pray for her to be successful in life and I thank God she is a successful actress.
Another thing, that time she was in it, I made sure I got to know who her bosses were, at that time, they were Ogogo and Yinka Quadri so we were praying for her until she said she wanted to do her freedom, we were at Odunfa then. After that she did. I do pray for my children until now. She has been successful through the prayers of her parents and God. If you don’t pray for your children what do you achieve?. Nothing. We should always pray for our children to achieve more than us so we need to pray for them
What kind of business are you been into?
Well, I’m into estate consultant and property in Lagos. I have an office in Ketu.
Why did you go into the property business?
Well, I went into the business because I was in the high court and I usually mix with lawyers who were into a property so I developed an interest then. We were the ones doing selected judgment and high court rules. So there was a time they sent us to the college of Tech at high court instead of going abroad and we did a small course there which helped me gain more knowledge. So that helped me to begin my own. So I love to be an estate agent or estate consultant.
So how many years have you been In this profession?
For over 35 years now. I was once the chairman of ECAN, there is a body that controls the estate agency in Lagos. We are a registered agency but we are controlled by ECAN and I was the chairman for the Ikosi zone for almost I year.
As Bisi is celebrating today, what do you wish her from father to daughter?
Well I wish her well and I want her to accomplish something which I have in mind for her and I have been discussing with her and I hope she does by God’s grace.
