• LAGOS Politician, Prince TAJUDEEN OLUSI
Prince Tajudeen Olusi is a respected voice in Lagos Politics. At 86, Papa has done well. He has conquered many territories and has helped generations of politicians to rise. In this interview, Prince Tajudeen Olusi who is the Chairman of GAC in Lagos rubbishes any talk of Interim Government by some faceless Nigerians who want to annul Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s victory. Below is his interview with City People Publisher, SEYE KEHINDE on why the idea of Interim Government can’t work.
There is so much talk about some people wanting to introduce Interim Government option after President Buhari’s tenure. What do you make of that?
The issue of Interim government does not make sense, because it is forbidden by the Constitution of our country. Nigeria has a Constitution that has become Law. It has the force of Law. And it is a Constitution that we have been operating for about 20 years. And so therefore, for any other person to think of any Interim government does not make sense. There is no basis for any other form of government. We have a Constitution. We have a system in place that we are operating. This system produced Obasanjo as President. The same system produced Yar’Adua as President. It produced Jonathan as President and it produced Buhari as President.
All these were as a result of elections. And so, what is wrong now? Is it because some people did not succeed? If you fail today, it is possible you can also rise tomorrow.
We should not because of failure of today, embark on a project that is prohibited by the Constitution of our country, that is unlawful, that will amount to either Treason or Treasonable Felony. To that extent, the idea of any form of government outside what we have now is really most unreasonable”.
You are the Chairman of GAC. What is it all about?
GAC is a Commttee of Leaders & Elders. When I say Leaders, it has nothing to do with age. There are people who got into Leadership position at a younger age. Some got into leadership position at advanced age. In GAC, you have Leaders. You also have elders. You also have those who are ruling currently. So, it is a body established where we put our heads together, where we marry our experience together, and make it available to the government of the day.
How do you feel being the Chairman of GAC?
It is an opportunity of service. It is also an opportunity to make one’s experience available. So one has to thank God and my colleagues for giving me that opportunity.
You are a respected leader of a party, through whom many people have been made, even generations of leaders have been produced. How do you feel when you see those who have passed through you in the political space?
A number of us started our lives as young people. We came together in our formative stages and God gave us the opportunity of creating leadership.
So therefore that formative stage in Lagos and by extension, the old Western Region, we tried to identify people who are blessed with leadership qualities, people who can move things forward. So that whatever one is doing now, is also a continuation of that motivation. It is a service to the community. I am happy having the opportunity of doing that. I don’t consider it anything extraordinary. It just makes one happy when you are connected particularly in the area of Reconciliation, Peace Making, etc. It is nothing extraordinary as far as I am concerned.
