Juju music star and current National President of the Association of Juju Musicians of Nigeria (AJUMN), Ayo Balogun, was overcome with grief on Thursday at the wake-keep of her husband, Olujimi Balogun, who died on Friday, 21st November.
Videos shared on social media captured the singer dressed in blue and wearing sunglasses, crying as a family member comforted her at the Pefti Event Centre, Ajao Estate, Lagos.
The funeral service is scheduled for today, Friday, beginning with a lying-in-state at the deceased’s residence in Isolo, Lagos. Interment will follow immediately at Ikoyi Cemetery.
Ayo Balogun, a respected figure in the juju music community, has often championed the preservation of the genre, which has faced challenges in the modern music era dominated by Afrobeats and pop. The late Olujimi Balogun was described by AJUMN as a strong supporter of the creative industry and a steadfast pillar for his family.
Tributes have poured in from across the juju community, with colleagues, friends, and fans expressing solidarity with the grieving singer.
