Kudirat Morenikeji Ogunwo, popularly called KUDI ALAGBO is an actress, movie producer, hair stylist, and herbal therapist, who now produces, packages and exports her herbal remedies abroad. She recently launched her 46-page book titled KUDI ALAGBO: An Egba Warrior with Herbal Powers. Last week, she spoke to City People about her new book.
What is your assessment of your last event?
I am so happy to have done the event because it was my first time. People that I never expected too came to the event. I am so grateful to God for the success of the event.
What were you trying to achieve with the book?
I was trying to achieve a lot but I will mention a few. I was trying to tell those that think I am illiterate that it doesn’t stop me from achieving and publishing a book.
I can express myself but I may not be able to put it into text. I am illiterate but I am experienced. Secondly, I want people to read my story so that they can learn one or two things. I was challenged by someone who asked me about my achievements before writing a book but I don’t believe that age is about the experience. I also want my book to be distributed to schools and I want it to be read like Alawiye.
From my book, there are a lot of lessons to be learnt there and the reasons for publishing the book are also there.
What is the difference between Kudi Alagbo and Kudi Klepto?
Ehn, there is a difference between the two. I am Kudi Alagbo, according to this interview, who deals in health-related issues. I am a doctor because I attend to my patients with different ailments and am able to identify what is happening to them and prescribe herbs that will perfectly heal them.
The other side of me is Kudirat Ogunro that people see on TV acting. I am an actress and I can act in any role given to me.
I am Kudi Alagbo and also, Kudi Ogunro, an actress., I am a professional in both professions.
Why do we have Kudi Klepto before Kudi Alagbo?
Since my childhood, I sell herbs because it is my parent’s profession. We have our stall and it is called herbs stall, so I was born into that profession. I left the profession when I was pregnant to learn hairdressing.
Later, I got the connection to the movie industry and it was due to my love for acting. While acting, I was so ashamed to tell people that I came from the herbal profession but after making waves in the movie industry, it really pushed out the herbal profession. During the lockdown, there was no place and work to do, so I decided to go back to that herbal profession because I don’t like being idle. Being a professional in that profession from childhood, it really paved way for me. People were making orders every minute.
How are you coping with juggling between the two professions?
It is very easy. My apprentices are selling their own in stalls while I do my own online. People order and send it to them. Though acting may restrict one from doing other business but my own case is very different and it really favours me.
How many herbs are you into?
I can’t say this is it exactly. My herbs depend on what my clients complain about. I deal in different kinds of herbs for malaria, typhoid, premature ejaculation, weak erection, Jedi Jedi, diabetes, romanticism etc.
I don’t have my own in bottles, the herbs would be soaked but I sell leaves and sticks of the herbs. I am Elewe Omo not an Alagbo.
Why did you adopt the name Alagbo since you are Elewe Omo?
It is because that is what people are conversant with, so I adopted the name Alagbo
What should we expect from you?
I have a lot of plans after launching the book. I want to start from school because I want to see the book going around the country and up to the international level.
I know God will make it possible as long as people are ready to support me. People should expect good things.
Can you tell us the reasons for writing the book?
I want to encourage those that have been giving birth at their tender age to believe that there is still hope for them. A fall doesn’t determine your life as long as you can stand on your feet again. Stand with God and make sure you are genuine and truthful in everything you do. There are lots of single mothers out there that are tired of living because of the challenges they are facing but I want them to know that they can overcome those challenges. I want to tell them that they will have to pass through something before they can become somebody. That’s why I recommend my book for them to read so that they can learn how to endure.
