…2 Days After ILEYA
It was indeed a sad day for the people of Mushin and Lagos social circle, as they lost one of their own, who had touched many lives positively.
The death of Akeem Olapade came as a rude shock to many. According to his close friends and acquaintances, he is one of the big boys from Mushin in Lagos who had a very humble beginning. He struggled in life to become someone great and with God’s grace, he was able to travel to the U.K. for greener pastures. And after all his suffering in life, he eventually succeeded, and when it was time for him to eat the fruits of his labour, he died, and his sudden death has indeed shattered so many people beyond words.
It was revealed that this highly respected man whom many look up to in the society and most especially the Lagos social circle visited home from London where he is based for the Sallah celebrations. His friends, family and well-wishers were really delighted to see him as he celebrated Ileya with them.
The unexpected happened two days after all the merriment that comes with Sallah celebrations. Still in the spirit of the celebration, he decided to visit his close friends. He went to see Yinka Esho then drove to Ikorodu, on his way to Ikorodu, he had a ghastly auto accident and died. Many friends and family have been sharing different tributes to celebrate the great man. According to the special tribute by his son on his Instagram page, he wrote “I don’t know where to start, just know I am heart broken, you didn’t deserve to go out this way.”
“But as the saying goes, the coward tells the best story about where and how a powerful man was killed. So, I just want to say I love you with all my heart, I appreciate everything you did and the sacrifices you made for me and my siblings. My oldest memories of you is celebrating Eid with you and it breaks my heart that you went on the day, you love and cherish so much. It hurts me that your favourite place and my favourite place in the world took your life, you touched down not even a week and you are gone. I called you on the morning of Eid and asked you, what you are up to, you said you are about to step out, you stepped out and never made it back home.”
Akeem, breaking the news to my mother your own Olufunke Asabi Ade was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. You said when Olamide turns 18, you are going to Nigeria finally. Your Queen Olamide is 15, my heart breaks for her.”
“I honestly feel sorry for you because I know how hard you have worked. You left your country over 2 decades ago and started from scratch not for yourself but to give your children a better opportunity and soon as it’s time for you to just cool off and enjoy everything you have worked for, but you left us.”
“It feels like I will never be able to pay you back for everything you did for me, I will forever be indebted to you, but I guess if I can look after my siblings and make sure they are good and be there for them, I will be able to pay just a little bit of that debt. I will never forget your smile, I know that silver teeth grin and that scorpion pendant makes you feel like nobody can touch you, it makes you feel like you are the flyest to ever do this.
I could go on all day and write endless paragraphs about how much I love you and how hardworking, strong, selfless you are. But I am going to close it here by reminding you that your children Ahmed, Afeez, Bose, Bisi, Akeem, Lanre, Mariam and Olamide love you”.
The late socialite died at 64 years and survived by wife, Olufunke Ashabi and children.
