LSDPC’s  Achievements Since The 70’s Till Now Revealed!

Over the last few days, LSDPC has been celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Below is a summary of what the property corporation has done since the 70s in providing affordable housing for Lagosians.

***IN THE 70’s

(1.) Ikeja Residential and Industrial Estate spanning the whole of Allen Avenue, Adekunle Fajuyi Estate, Oba Akran Road, Guinness, Aromire Avenue, Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ogba Oluwole, Sogunro, Ijaiye Phases I and II, Omole Scheme I & II, Agidingbi, Oregun, Isheri Road and Isheri-Olowu.

(2.) lIupeju Residential and Industrial Developments spanning the whole area from Cappa Railway Crossing to Shyllon Street, Bishop Street, Coker Roundabout, Oba Nle Aro, Town Planning Way, and Association Avenue.

(3.) Apapa/Oshodi Industrial Estate spanning the whole area from Matori to Oshodi-Isolo Expressway and Apapa Port Complex. Apart from the small planning residential area for expatriates and the police barracks, the rest of Apapa Estate was mainly swampy. It was reclaimed and developed into a self-contained estate with industrial, commercial as well as high and low density residential areas.

(4.) Other residential areas planned and developed by the Corporation are Palmgrove Estate, Maryland Estate, Gbagada Estate, Surul-

ere Estate comprising Eric Moore Road, Akerele Extension, Bode Thomas, Babs Animashaun, Ogunlana Drive and some parts of Ikoyi

and Victoria Island. The type TI/4 bungalows in Ikorodu were fully developed between 1972 and 1979.

(5.) Within the vicinity of Lagos, the Corporation developed and let-out to the general public three shopping centres viz:- (a). Falomo Shopping Centre, Ikoyi – 77 Shops.

Currently under redevelopment (2022).  (b) Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Centre, Surulere – 69 Shops. (c) Iponri Shopping Centre Iponri.

In fact, the three shopping centres were revenue yielding ventures of the Corporation until 1980 when the civilian administration transferred Iporin Shopping Centre to the then Lagos State Market Development Board. Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Centre was later redeveloped under a joint venture development.

***IN THE 80s

UNDER JAKANDE

The 80s witnessed a rapid increase in the provision of housing for all classes of people in the State between 1981 and 1983 under the administration of late Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande.

Between 1984 and 1999, the different Military governors/administration facilitated the completion of some of the low and medium income estates that were yet to be finished at the exit of the initiator, Alhaji Jakande.

Below is the table of housing units built by the Corporation between 1980 and 1989 in different parts of the state. Many of these were completed during the four years of Alhaji Jakande’s administration.

LSDPC was the first real estate agency to make use of prefabricated units to build the following estates, Dolphin Estate, Ebute-Metta.

***ACHIEVEMENTS

IN THE 90’s

This era recorded the success of Brigadier General Raji Rasaki, Sir Michael Otedola, Colonel Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Colonel Mohammed Buba Marwa as administrators heading Lagos State between 1990-1999.

Apart from shops, the corporation also invests in the building of rental office blocks and highbrow residential buildings to support the corporate world. The office and residential blocks include:

LSDPC House: A 13-storey ultra-modern office complex on Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Central Lagos.

Macarthy Street Office Block: This is a 10-storey block on reinforced concrete frame structure on Macarthy Street, Onikan.

Falomo Office Block: 10-storey office block at Falomo Roundabout, Ikoyi.

Olowogbowo Office Block: 14-storey office block at Broad Street, Lagos.

Eko Court Complex: A sprawling residential complex at Kofo Abayomi Crescent, Victoria Island. It consist of 4 blocks of 154 units of (1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments).
