How They Are Turning Their Creativity Into Opportunity
Ibadan, a city known for its rich history, academic prestige, and bustling markets, is quietly witnessing a new revolution; one led by its youth. Beyond the lecture halls and busy streets, young people are turning ideas into businesses, creativity into brands, and dreams into tangible opportunities. From innovation challenges to skill-building fairs, Ibadan’s youth are not just hustling; they are shaping the city’s future with ambition, talent, and unrelenting drive.
Across the city, a growing number of initiatives are fueling this wave of creativity and entrepreneurship. Events like the University of Ibadan Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Fair have handed Grants ranging from N100,000 to N 500,000 to young entrepreneurs, helping them transform start-up ideas into functioning businesses. Beyond funding, these fairs offer mentorship, networking opportunities, and business workshops, giving participants the tools to compete both locally and nationally.
Organisations such as the Jericho Businessmen Club (JBC) further empower youth with programs like the Annual Youth Innovation Challenge, where young innovators pitch solutions to real social and economic problems. Winners gain mentorship and incubation support, nurturing both their ideas and entrepreneurial confidence.
Skill-building is also at the forefront. From tech bootcamps introducing digital skills like data analytics and social media management to industrial training programs like the upcoming Liberty Stadium Skills Development Event, Ibadan youth are learning practical skills that turn creativity into sustainable income. These initiatives, combined with community-led empowerment programs, cultivate collaboration, resilience, and a mindset focused on growth.
The result is a city buzzing with young visionaries. Some have launched fashion brands, others are developing tech solutions or running food ventures, all while contributing to Ibadan’s economic and cultural growth. The city’s youth are proving that innovation is not just an abstract idea but a daily practice.
Ibadan’s young creatives are not waiting for opportunities and where more exists; they are creating them. With creativity, skill, and determination as their driving forces, these youths are not only building businesses but also shaping the future of the city. In Ibadan, the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators is already here and they are unstoppable.
