Meet The New First Ladies Across NIGERIA

The Governorship elections in the states have come and gone. But many can’t stop talking about the pretty new first ladies. The election took place in 28 states, while out of the 28 states, 11 governors came out for re-election, running for the second term in the office. Governors in states like Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ogun, Oyo, Yobe,, Zamfara and Kwara came back for re-election, leaving 17 states for fresh elections.

The newly elected governor of Benue State is a Catholic Priest, Hyacinth Alia and so he will be governing the state without a First Lady, and during one of his campaigns, he stated clearly that he does not need a wife to governor. Benue State. He spoke through his spokesperson Tersin Kula. Kula also added that Alia has worked as a Catholic Priest for years without a wife and his new position as a governor would not be an exception.

He is the second Catholic Priest to become Benue State Governor after Rev. Father Moses Adasu, who was the Civilian governor of the state from 1992 to 1993. Most of these new first ladies have been maintaining a very private life until their husbands were elected governors while some others have been very active and even participated in their husband’s campaign before they emerged winners.

The newly elected governor of Abia State governor Dr. Alex Otti of Labour Party is married to Mrs. Priscillia Chidinma Otti. She is a huge supporter of her husband’s political career. During the 2023 governorship elections campaign, she said her husband would lead from May 29 and empower enterprising women and youths by disbursing interest free-loan to further their businesses. She also said  he would move the state from its current state to a productive economy.

She is young, pretty and  was very active althrough her husband’s political campaign.

Pastor Mrs. Umo Eno, is the wife of the newly elected Akwa Ibom governor, who emerged winner at the just concluded election under PDP. This couple maintain a very cordial relationship. They have been married for 37 years, but everyday they look just like newly wed couple. Her husband, Pastor Eno was Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, before contesting for governorship. And just before the election, the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Martha Emmanuel already presented Pastor Mrs. Eno to the Female political class in the state as her would be successor and it’s coming to pass.

She already familarised herself with the people of the state before her husband even emerged the winner.

Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu is the pretty wife of Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the newly elected governor of Cross River State. Prince Bassey Otu is a politician who represented the Calabar municipal Odukpani Constituency of Cross River State, Nigeria in the Federal House of Rep. from 2003-2011. He was elected Senator for Cross River South in the April 2011 elections. Running on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He later defected in 2016 to APC and emerged the Cross River South Senatorial flabearer of the party in the 2019 election. He is the current governor elect of Cross  River State and he is happily married to Mrs. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu and the union is blessed with children. She is a private person, and has not really been active in political activities, but now, she will be occupying the first lady’s seat, she will be more prominent in public space, most especially in handling different pet project, as it is required of every first lady.

Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori is the beautiful wife of the newly elected governor of Delta State Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, she has been very active and supporting her husband, althrough the campaign period, and immediately after the election, she took her time to thank Deltans for supporting her husband during governorship election. She also appreciated them in having faith in her husband to continue the good works started by the Okowa led administration, and also stated that the results from the 25 local government areas was a reflection of the general acceptance of her husband candidancy by Deltans and an approval of the positive impact of the PDP’s administration over the years.

She is very visible and maintains a cordial relationship with Deltans.

Chief Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuni is the wife of the newly elected governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbona Nwifuni, the Speaker of 5th and 6th Ebonyi State House of Assembly and winner of governorship election 2023.

According to her husband, she has remained a strong pillar that he relied on for prayers, and support all through the election and God answered all her prayers. They have been married for 13 years and blessed with children. She has been a big support system to her husband striving political career and now, she is the first lady of Ebonyi State.

Hajiya Hafsat Uba Sani is the wife of the newly elected governor of Kaduna State. She has been involved in lots of political activities then before her husband emerged governor of the state. She has been involved in lots of charity works giving back to women and children in the state.

After the election, she thanked the women for converging together to offer prayers for her husband and Dr. Hadiza as those to govern the state. She also promised the women, that her husband will operate an open door policy to hear from the people of the state and that the administration will not leave women behind.

Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah is a married to the newly elected governor of Enugu State. They have been married  for a long time and blessed with four children. No much information is available about her yet, because she has been based abroad with her children, but will be occupying the first lady position once her husband resumes office officially.

Mrs. Nkechinyere Mba is the wife of the newly elected governor of Enugu State.

She is a philanthropist, child health and sustainable nutrition enthusiast. She is a Non-Executive Director at Pinnacle Oil & Gas Limited and her contributions and innovative concepts on the Board of Directors have seen the company through many challenges.

She is one of the founders and facilitators of t he Peter Mba Foundation. They are blessed with 4 children.

Mrs. Helen Mulfwang is the beautiful wife of the newly elected governor of Plateau State and they are blessed with 3 children. Timothy, Nanbam and Enodi. She is a very private person and maintains low profile. Her husband Caleb Mulfwang, the elected governor of Plateau State is a lawyer and former Chairman of the Mangu lead government of Plateau State before he emerged as Governor under PDP.

Mrs. Helen hails from Brass Iga Bayelsa State and made her way to the North (Kaduna) in 1991 for NYSC, after she finished her Law School in Lagos State, she met Caleb in Kaduna and the rest became history. They got married in 1993, they are both well known committed Christians who love humanity.

Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto is a politician administrator and Accountant, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the incumbent Commissioner, Ministry of Health Sokoto State. He was elected governor of Sokoto State. He also serves on the board of the African Export-Import bank and member of the Bar Association.

Though he is said to be married and blessed with children, but nothing has been said about his wife who will be occupying  the first lady position in Sokoto State.

The newly elected governor of Taraba State Kefas Agbu is happily married to Agyin Kefas and they are blessed with 4 children. Agbu Kefas is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and the former PDP State Chairman of Taraba, Taraba State.

Hajiya Fatima Dikko Umar Radda is the pretty wife of the newly elected governor of Kastina State. She is one of the few ladies, that were very active during the election. She launched a “house to house” campaign for her husband’s election. She is fondly called “The Diamond” of Kastina State.

She has been fully active in Politics and Empowerment programme. She embarked on a project of empowering some 5000 women, youth groups with start up capital for small and medium businesses across the 34 local govt. area in the state, and she is really loved by the people of the state.

Hajiya Maryam Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso the pretty wife of Kano newly elected governor Abba Kabir of NNPP, together they are blessed with four children. She is the daughter of ex-Kano Governor and NNPP leader Kwankwaso from 2011-2015.

The newly elected Governor of Rivers State, Fubara Siminayi is the immediate past Accountant General of Rivers State who emerged winner of the governorship election under PDP.

He started his career in 2003 as a Principal Accountant with the Rivers State Senior Secondary Board. He rose to the position of  Director of Finance and Accounts at the State’s Government House in 2015, and then to the position of Permanent Secretary in  March 2020.

He is a Knight of St Christopher Order of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion and holds a traditional chieftaincy title of Amaopu Senibo of the Opobo Kingdom. He is said to be happily married and the union is blessed with 3 children but the wife is not very active and maintains a very private life for now.

Other states like Kebbi and Adamawa, have been given fresh dates, April 15th to conclude their governorship election.
