It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the Ojude Oba Festival 2022 which is proceeding under the theme, THE RETURN OF OJUDE OBA.
Globacom is delighted to, once again, serve as the major sponsor of the remarkable Ojude Oba Festival.
Beginning in 2006, we have thrown our weight behind this epochal event. A Globacom we see our association with Ojude Oba as 16 whole years of well-deserved celebration of cultural excellence punctuated only by the lock down and social distancing measures necessitated by the global Covid-19 pandemic.
We are pleased to witness the resumption of this convivial gathering. Our continued collaboration with the Ojude Oba Festival Committee as well as our sponsorship of other festivals in Nigeria is rooted in our passionate commitment to being in the forefront of major initiatives aimed at celebrating the best of Nigeria’s cultures and traditions with a view to conserving them for posterity.
At this juncture, we wish to express our profound appreciation to the paramount ruler of Ijebuland our father, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona and the generality of the people of Ijebuland for the warm hand of fellowship they have continuously extended to us in the last 16 years.
The need to provide strong platforms for our diverse people across the country to fully express their cultures and traditions have become all the more expedient, especially with the advent of globalization which has reduced the entire world to a village. Our cultures are, therefore, means of introducing our belief systems, our traditions and worldview to the outside world. This is all the more expedient because culture, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), helps to accumulate, control and organize the human
experience. Our cultures, therefore, are the content of our being and history which should be preserved for posterity.
Globacom’s continuing support of the organisers of Ojude Oba Festival is anchored on the painstaking efforts they have made to celebrate our cultures and reinforce our values of integrity hard work, excellence and respect for others religious and ethnic biases with a view to ensuring that such cultures do not go into extinction.
We believe that as a proudly Nigerian telecommunications company with global footprints, we owe it a duty to the present generation and posterity to collaborate with all men and women of noble intentions to sustain the renewed drive towards the cultural Renaissance of our great nation.
For more than a century, Ojude Oba has consistently attracted a large pool of tourists from different parts of Nigeria and the global community. We are proud to be associated with this important festival which has also become a platform for all sons and daughters of Ijebuland to congregate and brainstorm on developmental issues that will accelerate the political, social, and economic growth of the people.
We have been described in many circles as the biggest corporate promoter of the traditions, cultures and desires of the Nigerian people and we are proud to gracefully adorn that honorific.
In addition to our continued support for Ojude Oba Festival, we wish to assure all Ijebu sons and daughters of our unflinching commitment to upgrading our high quality telecom infrastructure that will enable them to continue to communicate seamlessly with loved ones and business associates.
This year’s celebrations will, as usual, come with some very interesting features including a music fiesta where Fuji superstar, Abass Obesere and Teni Apata will entertain the audience at the Equity Resort, Erunwon Road, Ijebu Ode. A beauty pageant has equally been incorporated into the fiesta where our young ladies will compete for the much-coveted Miss Ojude Oba crown. In addition to these, there will be a special consumer promo where lucky winners will go home with 5 tricycles, 10 television sets
and 10 grinding machines. To win any of these prizes, a new Glo subscriber will be required to activate a Glo Sim and recharge with a minimum of N1,500 while existing customers will need to recharge with a minimum of N1,000 before the 8th of July, 2022 to qualify for the draws. Customers who miss this pre-event raffle window can simply spend N5000 or more at the festival ground on the Glo network to stand a chance of winning any of the prizes.
The Regberegbe competition is equally slated for the grand finale of the festival, during which the best dressed age grade in the male and female categories will win N500,000 while the first and second runners-up will grab N300,000 and N200,000 each. The Balogun competition will also reward the different horse-riding families who display dexterity and unusual skills on their horses with N300,000 for the first place and N200,000 and N100,000 for the first and second runners-up, courtesy of Globacom.
We thank God for bringing us together again to celebrate our existence as a people. We also congratulate our royal father, the Kabiyesi, the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, and indeed, all the Ijebu sons and daughters in Nigeria and the Diaspora on this year’s celebrations. We pray that God will grant us all the grace to witness many more in sound health and peace.
Thank you all for listening.
