+ It Is Called Egbe Akikanju Omo Egba
A new social/cultural group known as Egbe Akikanju Omo Egba has emerged in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The group which was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, 12th September, 2023, has the Alake of Egba Land, HRM, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, CFR, as its Grand Patron.
According to the members of the group led by their President, Oloye Akikanju Abayomi Kehinde, at a Press Conference held within the Alake’s Palace, Ake, Abeokuta, during which their inauguration took place, the group which consists of membership from both Nigeria and United Kingdom, was said to have been formed after getting the full backing of the highly reverred Alake of Egba Land.
After Egba Anthem had been recited to kick start the Press Conference officially, it was further revealed that the group has charity towards the growth and progress of Egba Land as its major focus. And it was on that basis the members revealed that, they would be drilling at least, ten boreholes across different communities in the city since access to potable water had been discovered to be one of the major problems the people are facing.
And after adding that, their activities and spending so far, had been from the pockets of the members, they also made it known that, the group had been duly registered in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom. And their membership is opened to anyone from Abeokuta who is above 50 years, but more importantly, with unblemished record of good character and trust worthy personality. They emphasised that, they would do their due diligence in terms of detailed background check, before admitting anyone as a member.
The group also promised to go out to give palliative to people affected with leprosy within the Egba Community after their Press Conference on the day, as part of the charitable missions of the Egbe Akikanju Omo Egba Foundation. And they also disclosed that, the group is opened to receiving support from people and organisations alike, to keep widening the scope of their charitable missions, as time goes on.

They also said they would be supporting Abeokuta youths and students with text books, school uniforms and scholarship, to take them off the streets, and reduce the spate of drug abuse and criminality amongst them. Though, they said the group was more known in the UK than Nigeria for the time being, but they would be well known in Nigeria too with their charitable activities, soon. And they would also be spreading the tentacles of their membership to countries like America, Germany and the rest, in due course.
Aside from their President, other members of the group which promised to take Lisabi Day Celebration to the United Kingdom from 2024, include: Mr. Babalola Sotayo, the Secretary, Mr. Adebayo Faleti, the Social Secretary, Alhaji Adamo Adesanya, the Treasurer, Baale Ahmed Taiwo Ekerin, the Chairman of Organising Committee, Mr. Bamidele Soyoye, the Publicity Secretary cum Secretary, Planning Committee, Prince Abiodun Sokalu and Mr. Wale Adigun, members.
