Have you visited Ogombo Road, also known as Abraham Adesanya Road in Ajah, Lagos, recently? This road has emerged as one of the most significant commercial hubs in Lagos, featuring various retail outlets. Over the past five years, more than ten housing estates have sprung up along this route.
A few weeks ago, Ojaja Mall, a project initiated by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, held an open house event and handed over keys to new shop owners in the mall. Additionally, the prestigious UK School, Cherterhouse, relocated to this area last year. As a result, Ogombo Road has become one of the hottest destinations for real estate developers in recent months.
There has been significant investment in this corridor over the last few years. Ogombo Road, also known as Abraham Adesanya Road in Ajah, has become a favored location for many celebrities seeking accommodation in the Lekki/Ajah area. This location is situated just past Ilaje, near the Ajah roundabout.
Recently, an increasing number of property companies have set up in this area, where land plots typically sell between 45 to 50 million naira, depending on the land title. Real estate firms have developed various housing estates on the road, attracting celebrities who are purchasing properties, either through instalments or full payment. Compared to houses in Lekki Phase 1, this area offers relatively affordable options. Many celebrities are choosing to move to this locality.
Ojaja Mall, which recently held its key handover ceremony, is located on Ogombo Road. The mall has become a vibrant hub for emerging commercial activities on the Lekki Peninsula. It boasts a state-of-the-art structure, ample parking spaces for a hassle-free experience, and a perfect blend of shopping, leisure, and entertainment. Currently, the road is gradually becoming a focal point for individuals seeking investment opportunities or comfortable living in a prestigious environment.
What about the new Charterhouse Lagos, the first British independent school in Nigeria and the largest private sector investment in education in the country? Located on Ogombo Road, this school has attracted many prominent figures in the society as they seek to enroll their children.
The school community is self-contained and situated in Ogombo on the Lekki Peninsula, south of Mainland Lagos. The secure campus will provide some of the best educational facilities in Nigeria, with 24-hour security ensuring that students and staff can fully enjoy the amazing amenities available.
Since the development of this school, real estate prices in the area have risen significantly. It’s important to note that many opportunities will emerge from this school, creating a new environment for business. With the school drawing influential personalities to the area, investments in quality estates are expected to increase.
Another noteworthy project in this corridor is run by Landwey Investment, one of the largest real estate firms in Lagos. They are developing a series of housing estates along Ogombo Road. Urban Prime Estate, known for its iconic design, consists of four different housing estates: Urban Prime 1, Urban Prime 2, Urban Prime 3, and Urban Prime 4, all located on Ogombo Road.
Additionally, Montego Gardens 4 is an estate that is gaining recognition on Ogombo Road. It is situated directly on Ogombo Road, just after the Abraham Adesanya Estate in Ajah, Lekki, Lagos. This development is designed to showcase a magical blend of greatness and excellence in architecture.
The estate caters to modern living for residents of apartments with stunning lagoon views, all within a serene and secure environment, tucked away from the noise and hustle of the Lagos metropolis.
For those unfamiliar with Ogombo town in Ajah, its history dates back to 1765. The founder, Abiodun Ogudu, was a great hunter who fled the war zone during the tribal conflicts known as “Ogun Alada.” At that time, all areas in Yorubaland that had been ceded to Dahomey were under a single empire. During the conflict, he escaped to Lagos, traversing the creeks from Marina to a place called Okunmopo. While Okunmopo was home to fishermen, he preferred the solitude of the thick forest, where he eventually killed a large elephant. As the elephant tried to flee, it fell a tree while struggling to survive. Today, that location is known as ‘Oju Ogun’ in Ogombo.
After many years of hunting and traveling, people began asking where he lived. He referred to his home under a large tree called ‘Abe’gi-Gombo,’ which is how Ogombo got its name, according to Chief Wakili.
The Ogombo community is part of the Eti-Osa East Local Government Area. It’s only a five-minute drive from the well-known Abraham Adesanya housing estate in Ajah. The community has existed since 1765, and real estate activities are currently on the rise following years of unrest. Thanks to the return of peace, people in Ogombo now live harmoniously together.
“People now coexist peacefully. The intervention of Senator Buruji Kashamu played a significant role in restoring peace to the community,” said a resident who revealed this to City People 7 years ago during a visit to the area.
