Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadan, is dead. Olakulehin passed on in the early hours of Monday, two days after his 90th birthday.
The monarch was presented with the staff of office as the 43rd Olubadan, by Seyi Makinde, Oyo state governor, on July 12, 2024
His death comes a year after he ascended the throne.
He was born into the Okugbaja family in the Ita Baale area of Ibadan.
He was initially rumoured to have died in March but the Oyo state government dismissed the claims.
Olakulehin succeeded Olalekan Balogun who died aged 81. Balogun spent two years as Olubadan.
The Olubadan stool alternates between the civil and military lines.
The stool will now return to the civil line as Olakulehin came from the military line.
Rashidi Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo and Otun Olubadan, is one of the 11 high chiefs in the succession line.
He is expected to succeed Olakulehin.
