I just lay there on the bed, watching him with intense hatred for him in my eyes. But the bastard couldn’t care less how I felt about him. It was a shocking sight. I had never seen anything like that before. A full-grown man standing before me and crying like a baby? I was trying to process it in my head but couldn’t quite wrap my head around it. What could be the problem? Why would he suddenly break into tears moments after taking advantage of me? I couldn’t make sense of the situation. I didn’t even know what to say to him. All I could do was just stand there and stare at him in disbelief.
“What have I done? What has gotten into me? God! What is happening to me?” Uncle Fred started muttering. His voice was not loud but it was audible enough for me to hear him clearly. But he still wasn’t making much sense to me.
“Rosie, I am so sorry, I don’t know what came over me…I can’t understand why I did what I just did to you,” he was apologizing. Now I was more bewildered than ever before. What suddenly came over him? Why is he just realizing that he just raped me?
“Please, my dear, forgive me, I beg you in the name of God,” he continued to plead with palpable sincerity. Still, I was speechless. Totally confounded. This was the last thing I expected would happen after he forced himself on me.
He came closer to me and took my hands in his. He was standing right in front of me. I looked away from him, I could not meet his gaze.
“Rosemary, please, look at me,” he said to me. Still, I could not look him in the eyes. I was staring at the floor, searching for nothing in particular. He lifted up my face with his right hand. “Please, I beg you in the name of God to forgive me, I didn’t mean to force myself on you,” he apologised yet again. Everything was still looking like a movie to me.
“I don’t know what came over me… but I guess it’s your beauty, I have not been able to get you off my mind ever since you stepped into this house…I can’t just seem to be able to resist your beauty,” he explained. It was the lamest explanation I had ever heard.
“But I am supposed to be like your kid sister, Uncle Fred, I am your wife’s niece for God’s sake!” I finally found my voice. Seeing him looking remorseful gave me the liver I needed to speak to him the way I felt was proper.
“I know, my dear, and that’s why I am pleading with you to forgive me, it’s just I have found you so irresistible,” he’d gone on so shamelessly. The nonsense he was spewing out of his mouth infuriated me.
“So, you actually mean you could still rape me again if you get the opportunity to do so?” I asked him pointedly. He did not answer. That was when I realized the man was mad!
“Oh, my God, Uncle, so you still plan to do this to me again? So, why were you begging me to forgive you then if you do not have any plan to stop what you just did?” I’d thrown at him angrily. “And what do you think your wife will say if he hears this?”
“Oh, please, do not tell her anything, I beg you don’t let her know what happened between us,” he pleaded. And I saw right in front of me an opportunity and I was going to seize it with both hands.
“Uncle, do you really want me to keep quiet about what happened here?” I’d asked him. He nodded and said yes. The tears in his eyes had dried up now.
“I will not tell your wife about what just happened here only on one condition…” I said to him with a note of finality. He was either going to do my bidding or risk incurring the wrath of his wife when she finds out what he has been doing behind her back…
