….urge party chairman to be inclusive
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Ife Federal Constituency has counselled the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola and the Osun State leadership of the party to work conscientiously with them for the party to win the 2026 governorship poll come August this year.
The Ife APC leadership met with Senator Iyiola Omisore over issues of the governorship election due to hold in the State in August this year.
The meeting presided over by a former Deputy Governor, Sooko Adeleke Adewoyin, sought an audience with Senator Omisore and was attended by members drawn from the four local governments and the Ife East Area Office.
The leadership meeting with Senator Omisore to find out whether he was consulted before Mr Oyetola appointed the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party.
The leadership of the party expressed regret that another imposition by Mr Oyetola was capable of causing disaffection between the leadership of the Ife caucus on one hand and problems between Ife North and Ife Central on the other hand
The Ife APC elders rose from the meeting to dissociate themselves from the imposition of the Deputy Governorship candidate and chastised the former Osun State governor for the militarisation of OSUN politics.
The meeting also counselled the State APC chairman, Alhaji Taju Lawal, to be inclusive, not by co-opting a few people to appropriate Ife leadership to himself.
They stated that the party did not carry them along in the process of double nominations affecting Hon Lekan Olatunji and the recent Mr Benjamin Adereti for the same position.
….the double nominations of the initial candidate, Hon Lekan Olatunji and later Mr Benjamin Adereti are volatile and could divide the unity of different cultural interests within the Ife area.
….the situation that could ignite already settled ethnic rivalry in Ife land is a low one for the party.
The meeting took exception to a proposed reception party for a segment of the party being planned for the nominated running mate, without proper involvement of all interests.
The APC leadership in Ife Federal Constituency resolved that they will be convinced of the genuine reconciliation after all candidates for other elective positions might have emerged in May this year.
….the situation where who takes what after the challenged governorship primaries to ensure further fairness to assuage poor feelings of other party interest is guaranteed…
….we condemned the imposition in its entirety! We are awaiting what Oyetola has in plans to the senate, House of Reps & Assembly candidates, which must be completed by the end of May, before we take WHOLISTIC STEPS and POSITION AND DIRECTION
The meeting for further negotiations and reconciliation raised a 5-man committee to hold further discussions with leaders like General Alani Akinrinade and Chief Adebisi Akande for an enduring peace in the party.
The meeting resolved to watch the situation further until the committee holds talks with General Akinrinade and the pioneer Chairman of APC, Chief Adebisi Akande, reported to its next meeting.
