Celebrity journalist and acclaimed investigative reporter, Dr Kemi Olunloyo may have offended a lot of Anti-Sars protesters. Ever since the #EndSars campaign started on social media, Kemi Olunloyo has been one of a few celebrities who believed the protest to end Sars, was a waste of time. She had told whoever cared to listen, that SARS would never be disbanded, rather they will be reformed. These assertions of her never went down with a lot of people. And then, they started reporting her to twitter. She spoke to Citypeople Publisher, Seye Kehinde on why she’s been misunderstood and why more focus should be on youth reform and orientation to withstand soci0-economic challenges
She said:
I won’t be here for long, my pension is moving close, so I’m moving back to the US soon. My children are there, they are Americans. But I cannot leave and see these children suffer the same psycho of things. So, my thing is, I will tell you the truth; Nigerian youths are the problem. They have no sense of history, past present and so they have no sense of the future. When you try to tell them. There is no focus for them because they have no idea of what was in the past. These kids have not seen light 24 hours, they have never seen free education. They never see what we saw. Who are their parents?
I listed the ages of criminals to be from 18 to 25, that that was what Diana had too.. a New York Times reporter for West Africa. They are ritualists, cultists, bandits. Terrorist, armed robbers, Yahoo boys, and I said don’t blame the government, blame your parents, and the whole internet went on fire, and they have been cursing me for three days, and I don’t care. Anyone who curses me knows that the curse is coming right back to them, and their family.
I started a hashtag this year #FightForYourself, you see what Charlyboy said? He said he’s been fighting for over forty years, what else do you still want him to do? My 34-year-old son once called to know what ASUU means. He asked why they strike every year. You see that’s the psycho. Sowore said once the government sees the youth as stupid, they like to treat you that way. And it’s true. Why do we have an ASUU strike every year? I warned the youths in 2019 that they must not recycle leader and they were shouting Atikulate! Why can’t you vote for Sowore; a young leader and new face?
Atiku started his own University. His boss started his own University. Obasanjo started his own University and the ASUU strike started. So the children of the poor won’t go to school. But the children of the rich will come to their University, so it’s a scam. It’s an elaborate scam and I told Obasanjo this.
Now they’re saying the protest has been hijacked. Segalink said the protest have been hijacked. We saw it. We knew it. And we know who did. And we discussed this last night. It’s now in Punch 15 minutes ago.
I am a victim of SARS, talking about Badore extorting my artist and all that. The Police extorted money from him every day. So I told him the next time you are going to the studio, I am going with you. We went to the supermarket and then we went to the studio. We just spent an hour with the producer to listen to my son’s song and we left, and just as we left. We were stopped by the Police.
I’m in the back, my son is in the front with him. They pulled us over and asked us to step out of the car. So I asked, “For what? What have we done? Do you have a warrant?
And then my son said “I’m an American. I came to visit my mum in Nigeria. Let me call the US embassy because they said I should call them when I have any problem.
So I told the kids to leave the car and let them search. After the search, an officer walked up to me and said madam let me search you. I am looking for drugs. Then I said ‘You must be stupid. I won even let you snatch it’. I schooled him and educated him on what he didn’t know. He’s a friend now.
What I’m saying, in essence, it’s that, not all police are bad. But we need to orientate ourselves and orientate our children, and of course the Police.
