REVEALED: Gov. Abiodun’s message to Olorogun Sonny Kuku, as new Ogbeni Oja

Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State governor has urged Olorogun Dr. Sonny Kuku, the newly installed Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, to use his title to foster unity, peace, economic development and educational advancement of Ijebuland.

Governor Abiodun stated this in his Goodwill Message at the conferment of the big title on Dr Sonny Kuku. He said his accomplishments in the medical field and his philanthropic endeavours are clear indications of the positive impact he can bring to Ijebuland.
He was represented at the event by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
The Governor added that the Ogbeni Oja title is a call to service and championing the aspirations of the people of Ijebu, explaining that it’s not a ceremonial title but a position that requires more responsibilities as the highest title that can conferred on any individual of Ijebu extraction, informing that the Ogbeni Oja is the chairman of kingmakers and all matters concerning the palace of the Awujale rest on his shoulders.

While describing the new Ogbeni Oja as a man of distinction and one who has recorded many remarkable achievements, he expressed confidence that his tenure would bring about prosperity and peace to the wellbeing of the people of Ijebuland, affirming that his commitment to excellence coupled with a profound sense of responsibility has positioned him as a beacon for others to follow.

According to the Governor, as we witness the investiture of Sonny Kuku, let us reflect on the enduring values that have sustained this community through generations, unity, resilience and commitment to the common goal have been the cornerstone of Ijebuland’s success.
According to him, “this reiterates, my administration’s commitment to working hand in hand with traditional institutions in creating a conducive environment aimed at fostering prosperity.”
“Our collective success hinges on the harmonious partnership between the government, its traditional institutions and the people of the state. By fostering an environment of collaboration and progress, together, we can build a future where the generations to come will see this day as a turning point in our history”.

He appreciated Awujale for his leadership wisdom and commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage that defines Ijebuland. Governor Abiodun stressed the need to recognise the importance of collective actions, calling on all indigenes of Ijebuland as well as the state at large to support the new Ogbeni Oja who succeeded Adeola Odutola who was the Ogbeni Oja for almost 40 years.”

The Awujale, Oba Dr Sikiru Adetona, in his remarks, thanked God for His mercies upon his life, appreciating his wives for taking care of him and all Ijebus for their cooperation in the last 64 years of his reign on the throne, while specially appreciating Prince Dapo Abiodun for his steadfast support financially, morally and in particular his developmental strides in the state.
According to Awujale ‘i want to specially commend Governor Abiodun for the success recorded on the policy of burying kings according to their religious beliefs in the state. He said although this agitation has been on since the time of former Governors Olusegun Osoba, Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun’s administrations but it was not successful”. He therefore called on governors in the western region to emulate Gov Abiodun by implementing such policies in their various states.

Awujale called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for a better Nigeria. He urged the people of Ogun State to continue to support Governor Abiodun’s ISEYA mantra.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Chairman of the committee, Chief Dr Fassy Adetokunbo Yusuf, appreciated God for making the day a reality, praying that Almighty will spare the life of the Awujale of Ijebuland and the newly installed Ogbeni Oja for a more successful reign.
