For the first time in 50 years citizens of Rivers State of Ijaw ethnic group extraction under the aegis of RIVERS IJAW RENAISSANCE GROUP have made public its misgivings about how Governor Nyesom Wike truncated the zoning formula in political election and appointments sine the creation of old Rivers State on May 27th 1967. The group who took advertorial pages of National newspaper in Nigeria are now challenging the incumbent Governor of Rivers State that they will not give opportunities to anyone come 2019 to occupy Bricks House Rivers State seat of Political power unless a Riverine Ijaw son or daughter in any political party is elected as Governor. Mr Sotonye Ijuye-Dagogo of the Directorate Communications and strategy stated that ” We condemn the actions of Ijaw sons and daughters that gave the governorship seat as a “REWARD”to Governor Wike in 2015. It was undeserved We regret the actions of all Rivers Ijaw ex-militants and ex agitators who shot Governor Wike to power in 2015 in support for President Jonathan”.
The entire political landscape of Riverine Ijaws in Rivers State has taken dramatic revolution as major political actors from the zone are switching political parties jostling for political space for 2019 Governorship election. And this moves are all targeted in making sure that they do not get dispersed as it was being done in the past where majority of Riverine Ijaws will all struggle en masse to aspire for Governorship position. As the likes of Barrister Odein Ajumogobia SAN, Barrister Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Dr. Silver Opusuju, Engr. Beks Dagogo-Jack, Engr. Sampson Ngerebara, major Lancelot Anyanya Rtd all in 2015 jostled for Governorship seat which dispersed their electoral values in Rivers State politics.
According to Rivers Ijaw Renaissance Group the following clans Abua, Andoni,Bille, Bonny, Engenni, Kalabari,Nkoro, Okrika, Odual and Opobo make up Ijaws of Eastern flank in Rivers State.
