Shaffy Bello, the Nigerian actress, says she is no longer interested in dating younger men even though she finds it flattering when they slide into her DMs.
Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Ifedayo Agoro, Bello, 54, opened up about her dating experiences, changing desires, and what love looks like to her now.
The mother-of-two described her past relationships with younger men as “having fun”, adding that that season was over.
“Yeah, men slid into my DMs. Well, it happens. When you’re over 50 and young men slide into your DMs to say what’s up, it’s flattering,” she said.
“But the thing is some of them are just badly behaved. Some will come and say ‘hi, dear’. There’s no need for me to date a younger man. I’ve done it before but I think what I want now is different.
“When I dated younger men, I was having fun, and it was for a season; that season is over. But there’s nothing wrong with it. What changed is that I know for sure what I want now is marriage.”
The actress said she would be open to marriage if the right person came along.
Bello emphasised that comfort, peace of mind, and emotional connection are now more important to her.
“I don’t mind marriage, but I have a very different opinion about what we believe in, and the culture shift. I think a lot of people are very rigid when it comes to marriage,” she said.
“To be honest with you, when you get to a certain age, the pie of relationships becomes smaller but it doesn’t mean things can’t happen. But I am not even interested anymore, I’ve got mine so I’m okay. That’s why I’m not interested in any young guy or relationship. I’m good where I’m at. I’m not married but if it comes, I’ll welcome it.
“When I was younger, marriage was that you had to reproduce. That’s different from where I am now. What a mature woman like me would be looking for now is different.
“Some ladies are 45 and they’re still looking for marriage and there’s nothing wrong with that. But what I would like now is that I want to be comfortable. What you can do for me I can probably do for myself. So what you’re bringing to the table is different.
“Give me peace of mind and let us both fly. I don’t need a man, I want a man because it’s nice. I am a romantic, I’m a wifey, not a girlfriend, I’m that kind of woman.”
In 1995, Shaffy got married to Akinrimisi, but their union hit the rocks in 2020.
