It was a convergence of family, friends and well wishers on Sunday, 24th December, 2017, at the prestigious Ibadan Civic Centre, Ibadan, as the Ibadan based top socialite and Chairman, Space F.M Radio and Giwa Bobiagbimo, Otunba Deji Oshinbogun celebrate their mum, Chief (Mrs.) Olayinka Abiola Wright-Osibogun at 90. The event, graced by the who-is-who in the society kicked off with a thanksgiving service at Chapel of the Resurrection, University of Ibadan.
Guests were later treated into an elaborate reception at Ibadan Civic Centre. City People’s Correspondent, Dare Adeniran was at the party and brought you some interesting gist from the well attended and a glamorous party. Apart from the fact that the best of the best event vendors were engaged for the party, another high point of the event was the unveiling of a book written in honour of Mama.
The book, which chronicles Mama’s exemplary life and achievements, is titled ‘Perfect Imperfections’ (Ninu Ikoko Dudu Ni Eko Funfun Ti Jade). It is written by Mama’s grandchild, Barr. Adekunle Osibogun. The venue was transformed with Pink and White colour while Mama’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren wore Blue. Chief (Mrs.) Adebola Osibogun and Otunba Deji Osibogun also proved themselves as perfect hosts at the party. Read on.
ABOUT THEÂ CELEBRATOR
Chief (Mrs.) Olayinka Abiola Wright-Osibogun, the Otun Gbadeniyi of Ikorodu land was born on December 24 1927 in Lagos, to Pa Rufus Adekunle Wright Esq. and Ms Abigel Abiola Oyelewu. She attended Itaelewa Methodist Primary School before relocating to Lagos to continue her education at Princess School and later Ireti Girls School.
As a student, Mama was very active in sports and music, she also played the violin. After her secondary school education, Mama travelled to the United kingdom to study law in her father’s footsteps, but her father’s sudden demise on December 24, 1950 changed her destiny. She proceeded to study hair dressing and cosmetology at the California School of Beauty Pageants and Cosmetology in the United States of America. Upon her return from America in 1955, Mama became the first American-trained hairdresser in Nigeria and set up her business as cosmetologist and hairdresser in Lagos and Ibadan. Mama was later to invent Claricer hair oil products, which she sold at a very reasonable profit to the UAC. Mama Osibogun is a good Christian, a committed member of the Chapel of Ressurection of University Ibadan, where she has been playing outstanding role since she joined in 1967. She is also said to be the longest serving Chorister among other positions in the church. Mama is described as a virtuous, brave woman who is ready to sacrifice everything to serve God; her time, money, resources, everything. Even though a tough disciplinarian, but with a very loving heart. She is pure-minded, and doesn’t harbour any evil against anybody, but cares about other people. She is married to Late Olufunminiyi Osibogun and their marriage is blessed with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
MEET MAMA’SÂ LOVELY CHILDREN
To say that Mama Osibogun is enjoying God’s grace at 90 is like stating an obvious; she is blessed with good health and adorable family. She is also blessed with good children who are doing wonderfully well in their various chosen career. Among Mama Osibogun’s children are Mrs. Olabisi Oloruntoba; Mrs. Olufunmilayo Olasewere; Otunba Deji Osibogun, Chairman, Space F.M radio and others who all dressed in Blue uniform attire at the party. What could be more joyful than this? At 90, Mama has seen her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
THE BOOK LAUNCH
Another big moment at the party was unveiling of Mama Osibogun’s Biography, In which story of her life was extensively captured. The 6 chapters book, titled ‘Perfect Imperfections’, was reviewed by the Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, who did justice to the essence, value of the book chapter by chapter. The book is written by Mama’s grandson, Barr. Kunle Osibogun and forwarded by Chief (Mrs.) Folake Solanke who recently celebrated her 85th birthday.
TOP CELEBSÂ AT THE PARTY
As expected of Mama Osibogun’s status in the society coupled with her children’s social and corporate connections, good number of high flying celebrities from different sectors stormed the party. The list include the first Nigerian female lawyer, Chief Folake Solanke SAN; Prof. Arowolo; Prof. Bisi Showunmi; Prof. Idowu Olayinka; former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and his lovely wife, Chief (Mrs.) Mutiat Yinka Ladoja; former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and others.

To have a dependable friend is the next best thing to having a loyal partner you love”, this could best describe the relationship between top businessman Femi Oye and Deji Osibogun. They have come a long way and it is an open secret that the are close friends in Ibadan. Though they have had some differences in the past but they have put that behind themselves and moved on as friends. So Femi Oye, whose son, Peter was recently called to the Nigerian Bar, stormed the party in grand style to pay solidarity to a loving friend.
WHAT FEMI AKERELE AND SOJI AKANBI HAVE IN COMMON.
Apart from the fact that they are both successful men, another thing the Oil and Gas top player Femi Akerele and Senator Soji have in common is their commitment as loveable family men in Ibadan. Both of them and their adorable wives are hot couples in town and they hardly attend any social function without each other’s wife. Deji Osibogun’s mum’s 90th Birthday celebration was not different as both men stormed the party with their beautiful wives and they enjoyed every bit of the party. The bond that exists between Mama Osibogun and her grandchildren and great grandchildren played out at the party, as they were all around her and the moment also marked a joyful one for Mama too. Some of Mama’s grandchildren include Mrs. Tinuke Adeleke, Mrs. Oyinlola Olaniyi, Mr. Adekunle Osibogun and his lovely wife Monisola, Mrs. Ayomide Olajide and her loving husband Gboyega and others. They all came to celebrate Mama Osibogun at 90 alongside their friends.
ROYAL PRESENCE AT THE PARTY
As expected of Mama’s status as a high chief of Ikorodu land, there was an impressive royal presence at the party. The paramount ruler of Ikorodu Division, His Royal Majesty Oba Engr. Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Adegorushen V, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu land led other prominent chiefs to the event. Kabiyesi was also there with his beautiful wife, Olori Kudirat Abosede Shotobi.
WHO DID WHAT
There were so many notable event vendors engaged for Mama Osibogun’s 90th Birthday celebration and they all did a wonderful job. Some of them are Mathar’s Kitchen, Ripples Catering Services, Julies Deserts, Ashley Party Service who handled drinks. It was also different tunes of music from the band stand to honour Mama but the special number by the duo of Barr. Shina Ogundele and his partner was electrifying and inspiring.
