On Sunday 14th May, 2023, Nollywood industry was thrown into mourning following the death of the versatile actor, Murphy Afolabi. His death came as a rude shock to many people, especially his colleagues. Many thought it was a rumour, until certain, prominent celebrities started talking about it.
On Monday 15th May, 2023, the Osogbo born actor was buried at his Ikorodu house located at Omoniboys Mopelufe, by Aleke Bus-Stop in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, amid a crowd of mourning friends, family and sympathisers.
City People Head of TV, SUNDAY ADIGUN and City People Reporter, SOLA ABIODUN got many showbiz stars to talk about the deceased, Murphy Afolabi and what they are going to miss about him.
WASILAT CODED
Murphy was my boss, he was the one that trained me. He is a good man. Most of the Nollywood actors can not say he did not have any positive impact on them. I graduated from Murphy Afolabi movie school 2010. He was a free minded person.
ADE ADERELE
He was vulnerable and he will not look down on anybody. I acted as his father in his first movie and he was the one that taught me incantation.
BARAKA
Murphy and I have been together for 37 years. Though I am older than him in the movie industry but he has been a good person and we were still together before death took him, I will miss him a lot.
OLAMILEKAN SHOW
We are really going to miss Sir Murphy. He was a very harworking producer, one of the great men who has left a great mark when it comes to production. He is someone I looked up to in terms of producing a movie.

Murphy was somebody who gave me joy, let us just accept our fate. God knows best.
OLAYIWOLA RAFISAT
Murphy Afolabi is my boss and father. Most times when I am on set if I made any mistake, he will throw plastic water at me to correct me and I will make jest of him. Murphy Opor! If Murphy is eating and you tell him you are hungry, he will give you the food he is eating even though he is very hungry. I won’t see any one to make jest of me again.

The deceased was one of the members of TANPAN and he was a noble actor whose work was praised to the fullest.
“We will miss many things about him, he was a great director and good actor. He respected and praised culture. He embraced everybody and in all he was generous.

Murphy is more than a friend, he is my blood. We started from the source, we knew each other right from Osogbo. We had our fights but any time I called him that Murphy, this is what happened, immediately he will apologise and let go. He doesn’t get angry easily. We prayed together during fasting period (RAMADAN).
OLANREWAJU OLADOKUN
Murphy was good everybody. Even if he sees any actor that is yet to be known, he will try to bring the person up. This month alone, he has called me to many locations. My prayer for him is may God have mercy upon him and God should protect his family.
KAMILU KOMPO
I called him on Sunday asking him why did he not send his own part of our regular contribution because we used to do contribution every Sunday. He replied that anything we want to do in our life time let’s do it at the right time. He called me of recent that I should come to his house and take some clothes to use them for another photoshoot but I said don’t worry.
Most of the people he had issues with he already reconcile with them.
He doesn’t get angry nor fight with anybody. We had prayer together this last fasting.
It was just like watching a film when I saw his dead body. Murphy is someone who you will yap and he will not say anything.
All I will say is may his soul rest in peace. We have been together for long, I was the one that shot his first movie. Then, I was not acting, I only handled the camera. He was the one that t old me that you can act, because of the way I make people laugh.
Let’s thank God for today, we can’t blame him for taking Murphy. May his soul rest in peace.
WAZO
Muphy is someone that is grateful for anything you do for him and he used to support and help people. Even me he has helped me a lot. He is a good man and a generous person. No one is perfect but he only gets angry anytime we are shooting which is often because he want the best of us all. We have been together for 20 years. I will miss him so much. We have had many productions to do together, and he had a production to start on Tuesday 16th May, which if he had handled the production everybody will benefit from it.
He is not selfish or self-centered if he has any production or job he will call everybody together to benefit from it. Even if he wants to write a storyline, he will call others. He is someone that the movie industry will miss.
