The hospital was set up in memory of Patricia Elozie Onyia – PAELON, where the hospital name is coined from, the 3rd and last child of the Managing Director & Founding Partner, Dr. Ngozi Onyia whom she lost 19 years ago to a rare congenital syndrome, charge syndrome.

On 8th of July, the MD, Dr Ngozi Onyia launched her book, “beautiful pink butterfly” in honor of her late daughter, Patricia Elozie Onyia in whose memory the hospital was set up. It was that day, 12 years ago when operations at Paelon memorial started and they have accomplished a lot in all of the 12 years.

In founding Paelon, Dr Ngozi says, “Patricia Elozie Onyia was born on May 25, 1994, with the Charge Syndrome in Lagos. She was my 3rd and last child. Despite her multiple major physical challenges, she was a bright, cheerful, positive, loving and confident child. For her, the glass was never half empty, it was always half full. She played the hand fate had dealt her with dexterity, and won every time.In April 2002, she went to the Dominican Grimley School for the deaf when mainstream education in Lagos became too challenging. She died in her sleep of complications from the 3rd of five major surgeries she had in her short life on November 11, 2003. Patricia’s birth is the milestone in my life by which I reference all other events.God first of all made me a Paediatrician, and then He gave me Patricia!! “She gave me eyes, she gave me ears; and humble care and delicate fears;”. A heart, the fountain of sweet tears; and love, and thought, and joy”.
Having clinched many awards, Dr. Ngozi Onyia never jokes with her clients. She is an experienced specialist in the field of paediatrics. A trustee of many organisations, the 1982 graduate of the University of Ibadan is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians in Paediatrics. She holds an M.BA from Lagos Business School and is certified from the International Society of Travel Health. On the other hand, her daughter, Unoma Grant, is the Chief Operating Officer of Paelon Memorial Hospital, PMH. She graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, then went to the Lagos Business School in 2016 and the Pan African University’s Enterprise Development Centre in 2018. She is a healthcare administrator with over 11 years experience leading transformation in complex organisational structures, as well as devising and implementing successful strategies during start-up, growth and crisis phases.
One of the most prestigious award won by the hospital was the most compliant private health facility in Lagos state to the standards of the health facilities monitoring and accreditation agency during the world patient safety day.
