Why I Am Going To The House Of Reps In 2027

Former Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Oshodi–Isolo Federal Constituency II seat in the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made his intention public on Sunday 22nd February, 2026 during the presentation of JAMB forms to 100 beneficiaries in Ejigbo, an event that also doubled as his official declaration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The colourful gathering held at De Ark Events Centre, Ejigbo, drew a large crowd of supporters and party faithful who turned out to pledge their support for what many described as a seasoned grassroots politician.

Addressing party leaders and supporters, Bamigbetan described his ambition as “a call to service,” rooted in loyalty to the party and commitment to the people of Oshodi–Isolo II.

“Compliments of the season. I pray that God, in His infinite mercy, will continue to preserve you in good health,” he began, setting a reflective tone.

“As our great party prepares to consolidate on the Renewed Hope Agenda and secure another decisive victory in Oshodi–Isolo II, I humbly present myself as the most prepared and loyal candidate to deliver this crucial seat.”

For Bamigbetan, the presentation of free JAMB forms was not just a symbolic gesture but, in his words, “a taste of what to expect” if given the party’s ticket and elected into office.

“One of my track records in public service is education. The presentation of JAMB forms to 100 beneficiaries is a demonstration of my commitment to investing in our children and youths,” he said.

The former Commissioner reminded party stakeholders of what he described as his loyalty and sacrifice for the APC over the years.

“I contested in 2015 and 2023. In both cases, I stepped down for the incumbents to run for a second term in the interest of the party. I obeyed party directives and sacrificed my aspiration for the party,” he stated.

He expressed confidence that those sacrifices would count in his favour during the party primaries.

“I believe these sacrifices will attract considerable value as I bid for the ticket of our great party in the forthcoming primaries.”

Bamigbetan reeled out his extensive public service experience, positioning it as preparation for legislative responsibilities at the National Assembly.

“As former Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA from 2008 to 2014, I gained firsthand experience in addressing grassroots concerns — the very issues I will champion in Abuja,” he noted.

He added that his tenure as Chief Press Secretary to the Governor (2005–2007) and later as Commissioner for Information and Strategy (2018–2019) equipped him with the communication and policy articulation skills required to defend party programmes.

“In my earlier role as Special Assistant to Senator Segun Baju and in my current assignment as Special Adviser to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, I understand the workings of the National Assembly and the federal civil service. These qualities are essential for advancing Mr. President’s agenda in the House.”

Central to Bamigbetan’s declaration was the unveiling of his 10-point agenda, which he says will guide his legislative priorities if elected.

Among the highlights are:

A pledge to remit 30 percent of his monthly salary to the party — 10 percent each to the local, state, and federal levels — to strengthen party structures.

Quarterly grants to Community Development Associations in Ejigbo and Isolo.

Support for cooperatives, traders, artisans, and workers’ unions.

Structured support for children, students, and youths.

Quarterly constituency briefings to promote transparency and accountability.

Attraction of constituency projects to address infrastructure, business development, and social challenges.

Collaboration to ensure the conclusion of the bill on the 57 local governments in Lagos State.

Introduction of new bills to address pressing national issues.

Bi-annual entrepreneurship programmes to promote self-employment and wealth creation.

With decades of political engagement in Oshodi–Isolo II, Bamigbetan expressed confidence in his ability not only to clinch the party ticket but also to win the general election.

“My decades of direct engagement within Oshodi–Isolo II have given me an unparalleled network and understanding of the electorate,” he said.

“I am not only prepared for office, but first and foremost prepared to win the general elections — and decisively too. I have the grassroots structure and personal goodwill to secure this seat for our party against any opposition.”

He concluded with a call for unity and support.

“I respectfully seek your support and guidance as I embark on this mission to serve our party, the people of Oshodi–Isolo II, and our great country.”

With his formal declaration now made, Bamigbetan’s entry into the race sets the tone for what promises to be a competitive contest within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
