Beautiful actress, Grace Amah made her acting debut as a 13 year old character in the movie “Chains” which was produced by Louis Isikaku, but it was her roles in the Teco Benson movie, “Elastic Limit”, and the popular television series “Superstory” (One Bad Apple) that gave her the big break she needed.
Grace Amah is a graduate of Creative Arts from the University of Lagos, she took 10 years break from the industry and welcomed her son Ayomide in 2011. She made her return back into the industry in 2014, and has been featuring in different movies. In this chat with City People Senior Showbiz Reporter, BIODUN ALAO, she talked about the reasons why she took the long break from the industry, and how she has been finding it difficult to fit into the industry after the long break and her plans for the future. Below are the excerpts.
Why did you take that long break from the movie industry?
It’s actually a very long break, but it was for a good cause though I was basically out of the industry for 10 years, though in between, it has to do with my son, that is why. I said. It is for good reason.
How have you been coping with getting used to the industry again after long break?
You know what it is like in the industry, once you are out of the industry, it becomes very difficult to get back. It was also one of the reasons why it took that long for me to get back into the industry again.
But thank God for the name, the face and the fans too, who have always been looking forward to my coming back.
Since you got back, how many movies have you featured in?
Yes, I have done a good number of movies and still working on some others right now. So far, I have done movies like “One Bite”, Single Ladies, Crazy World and lots of others.
How were you able to dabble your way back considering the fact that the competition is very high in the industry now?
To be honest, the competition was very high when I came back and till date, it is still very high. But for me, I am not competing with anybody, we have all got different talents and we have different ways of interpreting our roles. So, for Grace Amah, she has a unique way of doing her stuff, and that has somehow paved way for me and stand me out of the crowd. What I can do or deliver, the next person might not be able to do that. I concentrated majorly in rebranding myself, getting myself back and also be better at what I do. So, basically I was not really scared of those I met when I got back.
Honestly, for those who know their acts, they don’t get scared of things like that so I didn’t panic at all.
What is the secret behind Grace Amah’s gorgeous look, nothing seems to be changing?
Honestly, I don’t have any beauty routine, if I say I have, then believe me, I am just lieing, so I will just attribute my good looks to God Almighty and my lifestyle as well. I don’t over stresss myself, I rest a lot when it is necessary. I know my work doesn’t permit me, but anytime the opportunities comes, I grab it and make good use of it. Above all, it is just the grace of God upon my life. Yes, my name.
How long have you been in the industry now?
I have been in the movie industry for 20 years, and God has really been extremely faithful.
Have you ever looked back and regretted your decision for taking such break, considering you left at the peak of your career?
I can never regret having a break to bring a child to this world, so it has been a fantastic and fulfilling journey. As humans, we can’t always have it all, there is time for everything. If I keep looking at what is going on in the industry, then I will remain there, grow old and even end up not having a child or even children. Though the break was meant to be and I thank God it came when it came.
Sometimes, somethings happen to us as humans, we see it from the wrong side of view but the creator who has made that thing happen knows what he is doing, and why he decided to make that thing happen at that particular point in time, but at the end of it all, it is always for a cause.
Would it be right to say, taking that break, in a way affected your growth in the industry?
Yes, it slowed it down, but the good thing about it all is that, Grace Amah took a break, the name still rings a huge bell in the minds of the people. That is a plus for me, there are some people, who still took the same break and their names went with it, but that didn’t happen to me, so my coming back was somehow so easy for me, more because of the name.
Was there anything you read about yourself in the media and you really felt bad about?
Yes, quite a number of them, well that is what being famous comes with, so I am not too really bothered about them. All am really focusing on right now is launching myself fully back into the industry, so my fans can get enough from me.
Lots of Nollywood stars are also going into other businesses now, what plans do you have?
Yes, I want to go into business, though still working on it, once I start, you guys will hear about it.
