Visitors, particularly gentlemen of the press, to the palace of the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba-designate, Senator (Dr) Moshood Ishola Olalekan Balogun, Aliiwo Okunmade 11, would have noticed the absence of the highly cerebral High Chief ‘Lekan Alabi, Maye Olubadan-designate.
We can tell you why. City people gathered that his absence is due to the royal nod is given to the Maye-designate by Olubadan Aliiwo Okunmade 11 to travel to London, United Kingdom to attend the 70th birthday celebration of a dear sister of High Chief Alabi.
The new Septuagenarian in the whole wide world who is celebrating the enviable landmark in London,is no other person than Ambassador Ibironke Adefope,a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Malawi and Zambia.
History,as they say, repeats itself pleasantly for both the celebrant and her brother,High Chief ‘Lekan Alabì,a former press secretary to four(1 civilian and 3 military)governors of old Oyo State(present Oyo and Osun states of Nigeria).
20 years ago, while Ambassador Adefope was serving Nigeria in Zambia as High Commissioner, she clocked the golden age,and chose to celebrate at her diplomatic post.
Her brother, the Maye Olubadan-designate not only joined the family, friends, the diplomatic corps, and well-wishers of Ambassador Adefope in Lusaka,Zambia to celebrate,he was the compere of the golden ceremony.
While the Ibadan High Chief got the nod and blessing of the 42nd Olubadan-designate,during his courtesy visit to the Akinrere Palace of Oba Aliiwo Okunmade 11,last Friday,18th February,he gave an assurance of his early return to Ibadan, well ahead of the forthcoming coronation of Kabiyesi Olubadan.
