Elizade Motors, known as Nigeria’s leading Toyota car dealer for over 50 years, has established itself as the most recognizable car brand in the country. The company took over the top position from Peugeot and has successfully maintained its reputation since then.
The manager revealed that one of the main attractions of Toyota vehicles is their fuel economy. He emphasized that Toyotas are highly fuel-efficient.
When we asked what has allowed Toyota to sustain its popularity despite the influx of new car brands, he replied, “Toyota has a name, just like Peugeot did in its heyday. Nigerians have a strong affinity for Toyota, similar to how they once embraced Peugeot.”
We also inquired why Nigerians continue to choose Toyota despite its price. He explained, “One reason is the value of second-hand cars. Toyotas hold their value well, even in the Nigerian market.” He shared an example: “Last weekend, I saw a Toyota Corolla being sold on my street for 5 million naira. It was a Nigerian-used car, not brand new but purchased as ‘Tokunbo’ (a term for used imported cars).”
Additionally, we asked about the significance of the Elizade name. The manager stated, “Buying a car from Elizade has become a mark of pride. It is a brand that has built its reputation for over 50 years, and our integrity has played a crucial role in that.”
He also mentioned that the price for their pickup trucks, like the Hilux, ranges from 50 to 60 million naira. SUVs are priced around 155 million naira, while the cars sell for between 40 to 50 million naira, all brand new.
