How They Help Him Run Govt
Osinbajo has been in charge of government for over six weeks now. And there is no doubt that he may be in charge a little longer. He has however been working round the clock with some men and women who know their onions and who are willing to ensure that as long as it takes for him to be in charge, it would be defining moments for the Buhari government with the pace he moves.
RAHMAN ADEOLA IPAYE
He is the engine room of the the office of the Vice President as the Deputy Chief of Staff in the Presidency and head of the staff of the Vice President. He was also a law lecturer and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, just like Osinbajo. They have been together for quite some time and it is widely believed that many ideas are ran through him before they are tabled before the Veeepee.
LAOLU AKANDE
He is the Acting President’s Spokesman. He understands his mindset and obvsiouly this has reflected in the way they have worked together. Unlike with Buhari who has plethora of aides for the media, Laolu is the only one speaking for the Vice President and there is less controversy because, his principal is firm and explains his position on issues clearly. And since Laolu is less cut out for fights in the media, it makes it easy for him to always cut off those who want to drag his principal into media frays.
HADI SIRIKA
The Aviation Minister of State is believed to have drawn close to the Vice President since the President travelled abroad. Because of some of the projects that the Veepee initiated which is predicated on the aviation sector, they have drawn closer. Meanwhile, in the power game, Amaechi and the Veepee are believed not to be so close and since Sirika also cannot stand Amaechi, he sees Osinbajo as a more reliable person to table issues relating to the Ministry with.
OKECHUKWU ENELAMAH
He is also another brain within the government. He is in charge of Investments and this also happens to be an area Osinbajo is seriously interested in. No wonder they have been able to cut out a deal that is expected to take off soon on ensuring that investors are not delayed again. It would be the first major breakthrough in the Osinbajo tenure if the law is passed in days after all the Vice President has done to fast-track the law as well as compliance by organisations such as NAFDAC, CUSTOMS and SON.
DOLAPO OSINBAJO
Not many people know that Dolly, as the Vice President calls his wife plays a major role around him. She is his first and last critic and major motivator. Given the fact that she is quiet and more inclined towards women and children advocacy problems, she has been very active on this side, without you hearing from her or even seeing her in public.
MARYAM UWAIS
She heads the social welfare department in the Presidency as a Special Adviser to the President. Before now, she had worked closely with the President, it is therefore not unexpected that her activities and activities aroundher department have become more pronounced.
KEMI ADEOSUN
To say that Kemi and the Pastor / Prof as they call Osinbajo is close is to understate the obvious. They belonged to the same Parish of the Redeemed Church of God in Lagos. She sees him as her Pastor. Now, they are both in the Economic team headed by him, as constituted by Buhari. What this mean is that they had been relating very closely before the President left Nigeria. Whatever anyone might say, they used the opportunity of his absence to try some of the ideas about reigning the Naira in and it seems to be working.
IBE KACHIKWU
The Petroleum resources Minister had been close to the Vice President before he became the Acting President. They belong to the same page on so many issues especially when it relates with the South South. Given the fact that Osinbajo bought into the idea of having a one on one with the Niger Delta leaders ever before Buhari left Nigeria was a victory for him and since the Veepee took charge, the latter needs little prodding to activate their plans towards finding a lasting solution to the Niger Delta problems which the hawks in the Buhari government had intended to bring about by drafting in the military.
UDOMA UDOMA
Apart from being a member of the cabinet, he is also a member of the Economic team, and being in charge of the Budget, this has definitely brought more closeness between him and the Vice President. Dont forget also that they are both lawyers.
