It is indeed a sad year in the showbiz industry as many showbiz stars have died in the last few months. Though some were sick for some time and many were hoping they would get better soon but unfortunately they lost the battle and died.
Despite this, there were some whose death came as a rude shock to people and it shook the industry.
A lot of their colleagues and well wishers are still finding it difficult to believe and recover from the rude shock.
So far the industry have lost over 30 great talented stars and icons in the industry. But some deaths are still very fresh in people’s mind and fans and colleagues are finding it difficult to believe they are actually gone.
Few days ago, the movie industry was thrown into mourning as it went viral that veteran actress, Racheal Oniga died. Many thought it was a big joke, considering the fact that, there was no news that she was sick prior to her death.
A lot of super stars took to Instagram to mourn her and say wonderful things about her.
Though, it was initially speculated she died of Covid-19 complications but her family debunked the news and stated, she never had Covid-19 but died of heart related issue.
She was one of the best veteran role interpreters in the industry, who has not only spent close to 4 decades in the industry but featured in both English and Yoruba movies back to back. She was also said to have been busy shooting movies the week she died.
Another death that really shook the industry was that of music icon Sound Sultan, who died at the age of 44 years. Olanrewaju Fasasi a.k.a. Sound Sultan was reportedly said to be battling with “Angioimmunoblastic Cell Lymphoma” a rare form of cancer and many prayed and wished he will get cured.
Unfortunately few months after, the highly respected music star died in the U.S. and he is survived by his wife, three children and siblings.
Many find it difficult to accept the news considering his personality and love for people and colleagues in the industry.
Habeeb Uthman a.k.a. Obama DMW’s death also shook the industry badly. Before his death, he was popular super music star Davido’s aide and he maintained a very cordial relationship with a lot of music and movie stars and many were surprised to hear about his death. He died after complaining of breathing difficulty and even drove himself to the hospital on the Island but didn’t make it alive.
Veteran actress, Folake Aremu popularly known as “Orisabunmi’s” death still remains one of the mysterious deaths that happened in the movie industry.
She died few months after the death of her ex-husband, Jimoh Aliu better known as Aworo who died on September 17, 2020. And they were married for 36 years.
The Kwara thespian was famous for playing the role of a Priestess with magical powers expressed in incantation and some other mysterious manifestations.
She was very popular in the 80’s after starring in the series titled “Arelu”.
It was revealed by her family members that she was hale and hearty before her death, so her death came as a shock to many.
Her brother and sister equally died within 72 hours after 3 days of her death and many till date still wonder what could have happened to the 3 siblings.
A popular music producer Ayorinde Faboro a.k.a. Dr. Frabz also died in the U.S. Dr. Frabz who is known for working with Wizkid, Omawunmi, Davido amongst others died in the United States of America.
Popular female singer, Nikki Laoye broke the news on Twitter and he was said to have been allegedly killed.
According to her “oh my God, my dear brother, Dr. Frabz. This is such terrible news just heard that he was shot. Who did this? I am so pained right now. Many music stars took to social media to express their shock of the news of his death.
Popular comedienne, Mercy Mmesoma Obi a.k.a. “Ada Jesus” was popular for shooting her comedy in Igbo. She became sick and had kidney problem which was known to the public and was under medication, many thought she was better as she celebrated her birthday 21st April, 2021 at the hospital and fans were happy she was recovering, two days after her birthday she died.
Popular Nollywood actor, Ernest Asuzu was among the stars that the news of his death came as a surprise to many. His wife Jennifer Asuzu confirmed the news of his death to the media. According to her the actor slumped on Tuesday evening and never woke up again. The actor came down with a stroke in 2015, which affected his speech, he was also bedridden for 3 years and this affected his acting career and was off the screen for many years.
He even granted an interview in 2020 where he said his problem was spiritual. He was also planning a return to Nollywood and music after 8 years break before his untimely death.
Jim Lawson an Imo born thespian was among the veteran that died this year. He reportedly complained of body pain at around 12 p.m. and eventually died.
Before his death, he was a famous movie star who has featured in over 200 movies. He was also a radio broadcaster, writer, voice over artist, filmmaker and a television personality.
Popular actor, Mbakwe better known as John Lee died on July 8th, 2021 after recovering from a stroke. His colleague Emeka Okoye announced the death on his social media page. According to him “John recently recovered from stroke only to fall sick again and unfortunately, he didn’t make it”.
Before his death, he was also very popular for featuring in T.V. commercials.
Zainab Booth a Kannywood actress who was very famous for taking up motherly roles in Hausa movies. The actress reportedly died after a brief illness.
And many Kannywood stars took to social to express their shock and what she means to them.
